Component Question

Tomorrow i am gonna put on my e-13 DRS. I have an 02 specialized big hit, and am running an xt rear derailer 11-34 9 speed cassete and a 22/38 combo up front. My chain is in need of replacing. How long of a chain do you figure i should use with this set up. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Gianni

Put the chain on the 38x34 gear and pull the derailleur slightly forward pass the vertical(10 to 20 degrees). That should be a good starting point for length.

Make sure when it is in the biggest gear(38x34) that the derailluer still has a little room to move forward. You don't want to shift into the 38x34 and rip your derailleur off.

Official Shimano method: Wrap the chain around the largest chainring and the largest cog in the back, (not through the derailleur at all.) Draw it tight and then add one link. A link is defined as a set of inner and outer plates. This has never let me down. Upshifting in the front might be rough because 22 to 38 is a big jump.

Don't forget to account for suspension growth. Take the spring off the shock and cycle the suspension until the distance from the BB to the Rear axle is maxed out. Then do the above measurement.
