Headed to the lift...
I am considering moving out to Colorado this summer. I was just wondering what area some of you guys would suggest moving to. I of course will need to find a job and a place to live(anyone need a roommate :D ). I am looking mostly at the foothills just outside of Denver. My Sister and Brother in-law have a place in Conifer, so I would like to be nearby but do not have to be. I am really looking for a good area for riding. Sounds like for lift assist you have to travel into Summit county(no big deal). I am not opposed to shuttling or *gasp* having to ride up to go down. Anything is better than the flat state of Michigan I am in.

Thanks for the link.

I hate feeling like I am part of the "trend" to move to Colorado.
Dude, that trend stared in the 80s. That's almost as bad as saying you just discovered wonderful temperate southern California. :)

edit: And yeah, living within a reasonable drive from Salida is a very very good thing.

Yes, I would say anywhere along the foothills would be a good choice. Boulder is a cool place to live but ridiculously expensive and the riding isnt what it used to be. Golden is nice also, alot cheaper, sweet trails everywhere and its right on I-70 so getting up to summit is really convienient.
I moved from Michigan about 8 yrs ago and I love it here. You wouldnt happen to know Dan Krajcovic would you?

dont move to co, the riding is non existant unless your at resorts $$$$ or the few trails we have which for the most part suck donkey balls unless someone shows you the dank shiz. the racin/dj/street/freeride scene is spankin tho

Or if you don't mind a good XC ride, there are so many trails outside boulder county that rock, it is beyond compare. I almost turned into an XC geek while i was there, the trails are just phenomenal.

You should rent him out your garage. He doesn't need a kitchen - he only eats fast food.

Cool, my garage just happens to be up for rent!! $400 a month + utilities (plus you can use all my tools!)

Yeah, everyone is saying that Boulder isn't nearly as good as everywhere else, such as Durango, Crested Butte, Golden, etc. I too am trying to head out to CO, and I think I might just live in my truck for the summer. Or maybe borrow Mom's minivan... Save a lot of money.
Seems like what Boulder somehow lacks in gnarly DH trails, it makes up for with a killer BMX scene, rad dirt jumps, and a huge scene. Last summer we rode a bunch of awesome cross country trails in Boulder. I usually just ride cross country on my M1. Great for training, and it makes it a lot of fun on the down, so these trails would rip. Temporary employment seems most likely in Boulder/Denver area. I dunno about being able to find a spot to camp out for three months though...

Do you even have a garage?? :D

I am really trying to get my sister to kick out their friend that live in the aparatment above their detached garage.

Dan, he is considering moving back out there this summer too. For some reason I do not see him doing it.

Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs is a pretty cool place too. There's a large natural area in the middle of town made of some bluffs and there's a ton of trails there ranging from easy singletrack to fun shuttlers there's also a lot of fun shuttling trails that are fairly secluded down towards Manitou Springs (5-15min drive from anywhere in the city). There are some excellent local shops and a fairly good attitude towards cycling in the city. Houses range from 100-300+k in the area of town I'm in which is the newer area so cheaper houses are definitely there, and there are apartment complexes everywhere so I'm sure prices aren't that bad. Job wise, there's about any religious organization there is, as well as a ton of computer companies in town. Hope that helps, and hope ya come out. :)
