I thought of the possible conspiracy as I watched this whole thing on the news last night. Apparently something similar happened to a SD senator in the past and he refused to give up office even though he never showed up for work and never once voted.

Imagine if the Democrats were gonna push hard for universal health care, and he had a surgeon working on him that did not think too highly of becoming a government worker.
Hollywood could not beat that script.

Am I the only one who is bothered by the fact that this dude is in critical condition after brain surgery, and all anyone can talk about is now the balance of power in the senate could be affected?

"If Mr. Johnson’s health problems were to prevent him from serving, his replacement would be named by Gov. Michael Rounds of South Dakota, a Republican."

Anyone know who gets to decide if his problems prevent him from serving? He had a brain hemorrage - what if he survives and ends up partially incapacitated?

Personally I don't see a problem - half the Senate is dain bramaged anyway right?

Strom Thurmond was "Weekend at Bernie's" for about 20 years.
All they need is a heartbeat and a corner to be propped up in.

I found it creepy that the media aired the phone conversation where he begins slurring his speech. I really didn't need to hear the exact moment his brain starts being effected.

I wonder what Dr. Frist's diagnosis will be...
