Okay guys, got a good one for the shop rats.

After having a heated discussion with a fellow mechanic over this, what is your opinion of the correct method to wrap drop bars? Is there any leonard zinn proof of the correct method? what can i come at this guy with in-print proof that he is wrong?

basically, how do you all wrap the drop? (inside to outside?)
how do you wrap the hood? (figure 8?)
how do you wrap the top? (outside in?)

i wont disclose how i do it until later in the thread to avoid biasing... :D

thanks in advance!

hmmm, hard to think about when you not actually doing it.

I start at the top and wrap forward (of the bike) I will do a cross wrap around the bas of the hood and usually will have no more than a few inches to spare at the bar end and stuff it in with the plug.

nothing special but always lasted longer than other methods. guys used to have me only wrap thier bars.

not a fan of this method, seems it moves around too much on the drops
Hmmm...I guess that's why people have different methods. Last time I wrapped my bars, the barplugs I used required that I cut the end of the tape off clean and not stuff it into the end of the bar. With some reversed electrical tape on the end (which I would use anyway), I haven't noticed it moving.

I don't like to use those little strips they give you for the hood area. Seems like cheating.

The plugs have changed lately. You used to fold the excess in and the plug would hold it there. Now you wrap it flush and the plug is big enough to fit the bar by itself.

Toward the rider on the top is best. Tightens the tape with the rider's hard wringing.

Same as Woody. I don't use the little strips either and no figure 8 behind the lever. Tiny gaps there are merely aesthetic. If I am doing someone elses bike I will use the strips though.
