A friend of mine wants to buy his first DH bike, he has experiance with bikes, mainly BMX and MTB hardtails and has done some DH.
Hes looking into a Cortina DH bike with lots of good stuff on it.

Frame: Cortina DH

Shocks: RockShox BoXXer 20cm GERVISEERD!!

Manitou swinger 4way 23cm NIEUW!!

Wielen: Naven, Hadley 12mm A, Hope 20mm achter

Velgen, Mavic 321 disc

Spaken, DT-swiss

Aandrijving: Shimano Saint Cranks + MRP chaindevice

Shimano XTR derailleur + shifter

Remmen: Hayes DH 203mm v+a

Stuur: Race face Diabolus + Truvativ Hussafelt stem

Looks like a great starter bike if the price is right.
Yeah but i dont know if someone who does 360 barspins and can outride most DHers on a Cannondale Prophet can really be considered a starter.

I know Cortina has a pretty solid reputation but I dont know about how it rides or even about the quality of this frame. I think the guy will be very much at home on a nimble bike that doesnt need to be plowed and worked. Looks like a nimble bike from here but its kinda hard to tell from just a pic.

Thanks for the info so far!

Its the finest frame welded in a garage. Cortina has focused more on shock service these days, but is still designing frames. I've only pedaled around on the Triton, but I liked it.

His riding ability doesn't change the fact that its a good starter bike for anybody. All good parts but just get him a Sunday :lighten:

do it. its a single pivot, a steel one at that. it cant ride much worse than the new aluminum single pivots out right now. maybe an updated shock would serve well. if thats what he can afford then do it.

I dont know anything about Cortina bikes but just from my perspective it does have good components but with it being a chromoly frame it will be nuts heavy. I would tend to tell him to lean more towards a lighter aluminum bike. Yes it does have good components, but if its a starter bike i'm sure he'll want something better later on so let him start on something that will be more enjoyable to ride. Especially coming from riding a prophet (i lightly rode one for about 10 months), he would appreciate a lighter bike much more to "learn" on.
