Whats up people...dropping in the news of the cup down here in case you get a chance to get here...

Once again the adrenaline of high speeds, impressive jumps and amazing bike skills of the riders is upon us: the COPA TICA of Downhill 2012 takes off this next Sunday, January 29th at El Bistek course in San Antonio, Escazu. A track that, although very well-known, is a track that demands respect from the racers since it is over 1.5 km long, plagued with sharp curves, big enough roots to slip up anybody, and just to add to it, the rocky sections will be fully demanding on the suspensions setups. As if this isn't already too much, the steepness this track offers to the lovers of the downhill, will, in the most technical sections, reach well above 25 km.p.h.

According to the organization, they are expecting around 80 riders for the first stop of the Cup. La Copa 2012 will consist of 5 stages, 2 less than in 2011. Nevertheless, the organizers took care in choosing the tracks that demand the most of the riders, where the physical condition will be key to be able to raise the first place prize. Bazil Cambronero, current champion, will have to fight against the clock and try to record the quickest time. The Castillo brothers, Alvaro Hidalgo, JeanCarlo Aguero, Ander Cambronero among others are the contenders whom will have Bazil in their sights in the Elite category.

The calendar of the cup will begin on the Pacific coast at the track Los Sueños in Herradura, Garabito, this next February 19th. From there we will see the action in the central valley again, this time in the Xtasis track in the Matinilla Hills on the 11th of March. Once concluded, the series will cross the hill on April 1st, in Bebedero, Escazu, to perhaps the most feared track of all, El Caño, one track that definitively will be the breaking point of the series, that will then travel to the community of Monteverde, Puntarenas, specifically in the Hotel El Establo that holds a track within its forest to close the COPA TICA on April 22nd.

This year's great surprise will be the start up of the women's division. They will be racing in the begginers category for the first year, and at the end of the cup, the best ranked woman will be crowned.

Everything is ready to start the second series, thanks to the sponsors GIANT, FOX, Cycling Solutions with COMMENCAL, ROYAL RACING and URGENT BIKE, and to the organizers CYCLON BIKE SHOP and CRFreeridedownhill.com. The sign-ups will be open until the last THURSDAY before each competition, must pay at Cyclon Bike Shop, located in Escazu, 150mts south of the east corner of Escazu's Catholic church.
