Just wait until tests in the US occur. It is going to come down like a fucking hammer and paranoia is going to breakout like wildfire.

EMS where I work is already at the breaking point due to funding cuts by the FEDs. Plans are being put into play to erect Mash style tent hospitals at the fairgrounds and sporting facilities (they have the restroom and feeding capacity) to be the diverted intake and care point for all but those requiring intubation. I expect the same thing is being planned all across the US. It is going to get really ugly.

In hell. Welcome!
Holy hell, this feels like a trip down the memory lane, back to the 1980s behind the iron curtain.
Socialism is real in Mass today. Few cars on streets, ransacked grocery stores - no bread, no flour, no rice, no potatoes, no frozen veggies, no onions, no fresh meet, no frozen meet, no TP, no hygiene products, no nothing. No international travel, no flights. It won't take long and we run out of other goods. No responsive healthcare for much longer either.

I have a few colleagues stranded in south Asia now. I don't think they want to come back. The moment we run out of gas, we are fucked. Anyone willing selling me some guns and ammo?

Crap, I probably *should* cancel my México trip next week.
would you?
being quarantined at a surf/mountain bike beach town for a month doesn’t sound all bad.
wifey would be pissed at kiddo missing school, but we would be practicing LOTS of Spanish.
what would y’all do?
take a chance?

new study shows that Covid 19 has a similar hard surface life span as
Sars Cov-2

At a temperature of 68 degrees, SARS lasted:

—Less than 8 hours on latex
—2 to 8 hours on aluminum
—2 days on steel
—4 days on wood
—4 days on glass
—5 days on metal
—5 days on ceramics
—5 days on plastics (but one strain survived up to 9 days on plastic)

3% bleach spray will kill it

Difficult to say.
Can you afford to be stuck down there for 30 days? Assume worst case scenario financially. Then assume Mexico starts cracking down/quarantining folks. How good IS your Spanish? Are you possibly prepared to be the lone gringo dependant on the Trump administration if shit REALLY gets weird? If yes, tacos and mezcal for all, including the kids! If no, maybe stay home?

There is a good chance Mexico will solve this conundrum for you and ban all travel from the US just like India just did to my new business visa.

I heard this earlier on tv and had to check for myself. If I've read this right;

CDC hasn't tested one person in 4 days.

Between the CDC and us public health labs the USA performed .... 8 ... tests yesterday.

Now some fun facts. 80% of americans live paycheck to paycheck. What will 4-6 weeks (if things go well) of limited income or significantly higher costs of essentials do to that mass of 240M people?

I talked it over with my wife, I guess we could drive back if flights are suspended. That would actually be fun, IMO. Her concern is if we get sick down there.
I'll be honest.

My inclination is to say fucking go for it. Especially if your Spanish is even half way decent. Yeah, you could be dismembered and eaten by hordes of Mexican zombies, but the meteor might come next week too. 99% chance you'll be fine.

Briefing we got from the CDC yesterday were the best guess is 4 hours lifespan outside the body from all the data they've seen, maximum of 24 hours.

What do theaisles of shelf stable food look like? Went to the market this afternoon, everything fresh was in stock and on sale, anything shelf stable was sold the fuck out. Cashier told me they’re still getting shipments, and working 3 shifts restocking, but nothing lasts more than an hour on the shelf.

I wanted more sushi rice, I got no sushi rice, only brocand sadness.

Fully stocked with canned goods. rice was a tad light but the night crew was restocking. Where I live you have all the scientists that work at Lawrence Livermore and Sandia National Laboratories. Probably more highly educated and rational that most areas. No one is freaking out

i figure worst case scenario, we would spend $150 a day (but $75 is more likely). That’s not even $5000.
and bonus, I’ll have my bike with me (which is fully insured)

Wow Denmark is really closing down now after we have seen a huge rise in new cases the last couple of days. All schools closing for the next two week and people who can will work from home.
Also the universities. We were told that not even employees are allowed in the building after 4 pm tomorrow, only if you have a critical function. WTF? There are some experiments running that cost quite a bit of money and are not that easy to repeat.

MIL was pushing back on limiting her interaction with people for a while - "I'll only see people I know" or "I never shop at Safeway; I don't like that they aren't local. I prefer [tiny local market where you have to interact with people]". Finally laid out the mortality numbers from China by age and the risk multipliers - age, lung issues, obesity - and how she checks all three with a target on her back (I did say overweight). That plus some good info I got from @eric strt6 right while we were talking, she will not be going out much... Wifey is not happy with me though.
