errm, your Russian bot-mask slipped down again

ETA: sniped by the streamlined sack née uni-baller ;)

A video on social media suggests that Biden and Harris distrusted COVID-19 vaccines.

The video was selectively edited to leave out the context of their statements. Their full statements show they were raising doubts about Trump’s trustworthiness, his ability to roll out the vaccines safely and the risk of political influence over vaccine development.

Eric, at 85 isn’t your MIL old enough to remember the days when everybody either lossy a kid or knew a family who had due to lack of vaccines? Vaccines were kinda sketch back then, but they were still exponentially safer than diseases were.

Edit, how’s your EMT buddy doing?

"Streamlined Sack", please.
Damn, that’s the second epic band name posted today. We need to start an RM band

This is an important tidbit that most people miss. They tested at an “accelerated pace” for three reasons, more people volunteered to take part in the trials, there was more Covid floating around, and the drug companies were willing to throw unlimited resources at the problem.

Usually it takes forever to find the candidates willing to take part in your trial, then you need those willing candidates to be in an area where they may actually be exposed to whatever the vaccine protects against. If every vaccine were developed to fight a disease as pervasive as Covid with the same economic upside for the drug companies, they’d all take under a year to develop. Then it takes forever for the fucks at the FDA to schedule a meeting to even look over the research, EUA is just a front of the line pass.

Sounds like we’re a few weeks away from the EUA being a moot point anyway, Moderna abd Pfizer are about to get their full

Are these people unaware that they send the government a form including their name, address and all their financial information annually?
also worth pointing out - its incredible that they are able to go from a EUA to full approval in under a year. As you already pointed out, with so many people getting the vaccine they were able to collect postmarket data faster than ever (eg Phase IV clinicals).

Now they're worried about side effects that won't manifest for 20 years.

I wish they'd just quit making up shit to excuse their fear of fucking needles, like a bunch of whiny 4 year-olds.

They weren't handing out lollipops when I got my shot. Perhaps a supply of Animaniac BandAids and suckers for the suckers would help.

You got screwed, got a raspberry otter pop on dose 1, and an orange tootsie pop with my second dose.

Maybe you’ll have better luck on the boosters. I hear they’re going to be required daily and injected into your dick. Sounds unreasonable, but hey, it’s on Facebook, must be true right?

I was trying to explain the approval process to some friends (who are vaccinated) and have friends/family they are dealing with that are not. Why normal timelines for approvals are so long vs. what we're seeing here and they were just dumbfounded that it hasn't been made wider knowledge in a simple bullet point format.

It's so simple:
Phase 1: Profit. It's clearly there, so no need to research whether the drug will even be profitable enough to justify it. AND some companies were getting it paid for by the govt - negligible risk. So, you can dump everything into it. Oh, and there were already drugs available or in research for similar viruses (SARS).

Phase 2: You need to find people for the trial. Usually that takes a while to get an initial group of people willing to sign-up. There was a damn list of people waiting. And with it be accelerated to front of the line, FDA analysis and approval of Phase 2 can happen much quicker vs. waiting for scheduling. Also, if no immediate signs of substantial risk (vs. control group), given risk of virus, it will push forward.

Phase 3: Continuation of Phase 3. Huge amount of people available for the trial to expand the number of people. For normal people, that's the biggest difference in understanding - it's Phase 2 with a fuck ton more people (since 2 is to make sure it's not actively killing people and is effective). Again, it's been pushed to the front of the line at the FDA and all company dollars are focusing on this drug. There are no unnecessary waiting periods - the ball never stops moving.

Once Phase 3 is completed and approved, even only for emergency usage, it's because it's proven effective. And like Jon said, Phase 4 (post-marketing) is showing as much and that side effects are not being found currently.

Sadly, that summary is still too much for most people...

@jonKranked am missing anything for avg individual summary?

profit has nothing to do with clinical trials. it's all about safety & efficacy

Exactly. Pussies.

My 14 year old daughter got round two this morning and didn't even flinch. "Grown ass" men and women refuse to get it and make up a zillion reasons not to. My Facebook feed, full of people from my hometown, is a thing of stupidity, ignorance, gullibility and redneck internet medical experts. I'd say that it's funnier than Seinfeld but in reality it's just sad.

You're right. Getting companies to take a drug from idea > trial is the profit item. That's what I meant.

Once in trial it's scaling up the size of group being tested on and proving of efficacy and safety.

Is it time yet to have a conversation about how utterly toxic fuckbook and twatter are to society at large and how their negative impacts, e.g. facilitating the erosion of entire societies and aiding and abetting the deaths of hundreds of thousands through wilful promotion of misinformation are by far not worth the ‘benefits’ of sharing your baby pictures with people you hardly ever see and don’t really care about?

clinical trials are all about clinical research, nothing about profitability. under "typical" circumstances, new APIs don't even make it to clinical studies if they won't be profitable or at least as effective than an existing drug.

also, phase 1 is primarily dose ranging.

We’re just finding out about where the “average” is for people who can get online. And bots. Before those tools existed, engaging in a global dialogue about any issue required a lot more work than reposting or even tapping out 140 characters while you poop.

I thought this was already a well accepted and known point of view? Just that no one cares.

I for one would not care if they dissapeared. Ridemonkey and Strava are the extents of my social media ponderings.
