Father of Wifey's coworker died in FL today. Coworker is hardcore anti-vax/anti-mask/pro-Trump/etc. Didn't think the virus was real or any worse than the flu (reconcile those for me; I'll wait). Should be interesting to see how this pans out for coworker now.

Obviously our condolences have been passed along, but damn. Why does it take personal impact for people to respond to this shit? We shall see...

I'll bet you a shiny quarter it still doesn't. The fascists will continue to happily and smugly lie. Those who "are not convinced" at this point have simply chosen to keep being wrong for the sake of "owning the libs". They literally will die to avoid saying they were wrong.

I sincerely believe it all boils down to a very basic and tribal "Us vs Them" mentality.
AIDS wasnt a problem because it was an issue for "them". Welfare is bad because is for "them". Inmigration is bad because they are not like "us". Covid wont affect "us", until it does.

A lot of things we see dont work unless there is a "us vs them" mentality.

I saw this and laughed. I love the idea but the price is silly. I will build it for about $500, but my office chair sucks.

i can't remember if it was here or someone else, but i read a description that for conservatives, "owning the libs" is basically a game of calvinball.

The TL;DR of this rather long article from the Orange Satan (Daily Kos) suggests the differences in death re: partisan lean are mitigated by the large number of early deaths in Blue States (NY/NJ) at the start of the pandemic and may not play as big of a role as us libtards would hope:

What about going forward between now and November 2022?

That's mostly an unknown, of course...but the biggest unknown is the total number of additional COVID deaths the nation is facing between now and then.

Let's assume it ends up being something like 150,000 more Americans dying of COVID between now and then, at roughly the same ratios as in the June - September data above (that is, roughly 80% GOP & 15% Dem). That would boil down to something like 74,000 additional Republican voters and 14,000 additional Democratic voters, for a net loss of 60,000 more GOP than Dem voters nationally.

The grand total would then stand at somewhere around ~105,000 Democratic voters, ~220,000 Republican voters and ~26,000 swing voters having died nationally between 11/04/20 - 11/08/22...or a net loss of perhaps 115,000 more Republicans than Democrats overall.

Now, you would think that this would cause Republican leadership to be deeply concerned...but they clearly aren't.

Just wait until the trend of nebulizing hydrogen peroxide really catches on as a cure for the hoax disease. There is still time!

I know it's kind of irrational... but *this* is the main reason I don't want to get this fuckin' cootie. Not death... not impaired lung function... but loss of smell and taste. FTS.
Honestly, this is the first time in my life I have legitimately lost smell and taste. Not gonna lie. It's pretty weird and before I lost it something inside me didn't believe it could actually happen.

I've got dozens of rose bushes and every morning I go out to smell them and I get nothing.

Had a fairly benign shift last night. 0400 a family member called to not let her mom know that 3 of their relatives died of COVID yesterday, and that she didnt want her mom to worry. Her voice was very matter-of-fact and didnt even respond when I said I was sorry. Yeah, nah, Im so over this shlt.

When I got it we were upping the heat scale on all of our foods because we could taste them. We tried something that we made while we were sick recently and damn near burned out faces off.

Our ER just went on divert - super full, most of our floors are near full and all are short staffed. Looking at the patient list and the visit reason, many of them could easily be Covid based on their presenting symptoms. Even in my highly vaccinated and very mask compliant area.

My ICU census is about 80% but half of them are people we can't txr out due to the above mentioned fullness/staffing issues. Backs up the whole damn system.

What are the current Euro travel restrictions anyway? Seems like if your job is to travel internationally you kinda have no choice but to get vaxxed.

Unless of course you’re injured and not traveling anyway. Or maybe faking an injury so you can still collect a check while not traveling because you’re afraid of needles? #Qanonmonkey.com

Sure Nicki. Your cousin nailed a crack whore or farm animal and finds it easier to blame his STD on the vaccine.
Cousin’s friend had the swollen testicles.
And who calls off a wedding due to swollen nuts and/or impotence? Was it to reschedule the wedding once the swelling went down? Was the marriage based on the guy’s testicle size? Is viagra ineffective? So many questions.
