Fack. Finding many of the mag trainers available have limited rear tire tolerance, like 2.0. The slicks I’m finding are generally at that or bigger.

Still shopping.
Stop looking for mtb tyres and look for 700c commuter tyres and get some 40mm or similar.

Any foreseeable issues with fit on my current rear wheel? 40mm seems to be close to the 37mm recommended minimum. I haven’t shopped tires in ages so I’m rusty on specs and nuances. I’ve never mounted a “road” tire on a “mtb” rim, so I’m not sure if there are any differences to consider.

Wheel -
WTB i23 speed disc rims rated for 622x23c recommenced 37-62mm tire section width.

Nope, a 29er rim is the same diameter as a road rim.

On a 23mm internal rim you'll just want something over 30mm, a wider tyre will be easier to fit, so 40ish mm will work just fine.

Alright. I quit. I'm giving up the search.
The trainers I'd be interested are some combination of unavailable and/or expensive.
The ones I can find are going to be problematic with my rear hub size and/or the fact that I've got single speed gearing.
I'm just going to pedal on the streets.

No hub size noted on their specs.
29" wheel. Rear Unit hub is 12 x 142 axel with a QR through it. I’ve seen other trainers indicate that size won’t fit. I’m not looking to deal with guesswork and returns.

it will clear both of my 142mm bikes. The max width is 190mm.

You can use most any QR, but I think it may have some trouble with shimano cam action (rather than direct?) levers. I had a dedicated one I ran just so it didn't fuck up my matchy ones. think salsa rather than XT

You can use a lot of adapters too. robert axle project makes some axles that are specific for trainers and 142mm hubs. I'll need one if I want to run my fancy bike in my trainer, but that's part of the reason I got the child beater. child/beater. Beater for children. The nashbar bike.

Sweet. Since I’m on a single speed, is the mag resistance adjustable but only to one level? I want to make sure it isn’t already locked into some dedicated resistance setting.

The road bike I was given has a bent rear axle on the drive side right at the hub so the QR is stuck on it. It was tricky but I got it wired up and managed to roll on the fluid trainer for 30 minutes. It’s nice to exercise.
