I love the looks of the 04's. Much better now, than first time I saw a proto.
I still think the 00-02 are the most beautiful frames ever made.

E[/QUOTE]

I still get people checking out my 02 as if they had never seen one before. Winter 05 mine is going in for new paint and the works at Turner.

Ok you guys. Sorry for not getting these sooner. But me and my son spent the day at Big Bear. Gotta say, I do LOOOVE this bike. I came off a FOES DHS that I rode for a year and a half and I have no regrets. The FOES was a great bike but the Turner feels like a sports car by comparison.

Sticker modification was pretty straight forward. Pretty much consisted of cutting out the orange stuff. Would be easiest if the stickers weren't already on the bike, but mine were already applied so I had to do it the hard way. You have to be carefull to cut thru most the sticker but stop shy of cutting all the way thru to the powdercoat. Then just peel off what you don't want. If you don't cut deep enough sticker will not separate correctly. Afterwards I applied 3 layers of clear 3m MX tape to the downtube and various rub points.

Bike as built weighs 43 1/2lbs. Should be 43 when my ti spring gets here. Not to bad considering a 170mm 888 instead of a Boxxer. Mavic 321 with Stans and big porky Michelin Comp 32 in the front and a Timberwolf 2.5 in the back (the Timberwolf is actually heavier that the larger Michelin. But man does it hookup in that Big Bear baby powder dirt.) Tried to build it light, but not stupid light. The one comprimise was the new XT cranks, quite a step considering I was running profiles before. Everybody I talked to who is running them were real happy, so far I will put myself in the happy group also.

Let me know what you think. But be gentle. My feelings get hurt easy. :D

Here's the pic I'll be sending to Turner.

Just the beginnings but keep an eye out if you gots an 03.

Man, you guys are freaking me out! Now I'm gonna be checking my 03 after every ride.

I have a question for you guys though. Did you have the upgraded main pivot thingy or we you riding it for awhile with the dual bolt system? I'm just wondering if that old pivot had anything to do with it .

Mental, those where DeeMax rims before they went UST. They were originally powdercoat yellow. All it took was a quart of Jasco paint stripper and about a half hour for the pair on the buffing wheel with a little polishing compound. They do look sweet. Don't know why no MTB manufacturers are doing 'em that way. It's common with BMX rims.

Slacker, my cracked frame had the spacer that you have. You helped me out not long ago when I was wondering about my sons frame. His doesn't have the spacer and it hasn't cracked. But he's only 110lbs. Just keep an eye on yours. Its not like all the 03 have cracked there.

really nice bike.....after receiving the '04 DHR, i also have to admit that the looks of the '04 are better than the '03... in person it's just a pice of art

i spent all weekend struggling with the sitckers (the orange color  ) with a friend making new ones with red instead of orange, but none of them came with the quality of the original stickers. when i prdered the frame i asked to send appart the stickers so we could scan them and work with illustrator and a digital printer, the prints came good, but the main problem was with the thick 3m clear film that we tried to place over the printed sticker; after a few tries we gave up, and decided to use just the sticker over the top tube and the seat mast and the upper chain stays stickers with the logo with the minimum orange as possible.

anybody with an extra set of red or white stickers :sneaky: big $$$ prize :sneaky:

sorry bro. Only bro that snuck a set out that I'm aware of was Acadian's pretty little butt. Us (white) and the honda boys (red) are supposed to be the sole possessors of those.
The only other team is out of the Northeast and has yellow. It was the easiest way for Greg to differentiate his team riders from stock riders. Giving our teams custom paint jobs each year was just too time consuming and a pain in the butt to do limited runs at the painter....or something like that (my attention span sucks)

One guy did use the ones you have but cut out the majority of the orange and it looked pretty good. You could order a new set of orange and try that or take an exacto knife to the ones already on your bike.

The '03 is friggin solid. The things you want to look at are relatively simple. Some of the pre-production swing links were lighter/thinner and most went to team members. All of us upgraded ours with the production link which NEVER had an issue and is the same as the '04.

The main pivot mounting tabs on the first '03 swingarms were structurally sound but people ignored not making sure they were snug. It could(when ridden for a long, long time) stress the mounting tabs too much if ridden loose. There were 2 revisions to that area. First was 2 separate bolts to mount the swingarm. The 1st revision was a single, long bolt that went through both tabs with an extra thick sleeve between the two mounting tabs. The second, final revision is the '04 swingarm, which is one solid piece sleeve of metal(as opposed to 2 tabs coming off the swingarm) secured by 1 solid bolt all the way through.

All 3 work really well and are all solid but the original could be damaged because people woudn't check to make sure the bolts were snug and then just ride it with them loose. If you have a current Yeti DH9, the mounting of the lower pivot at the BB is very similar to the 03 DHR's original setup. I

f you've got the original '03 swingarm and dual locking bolts and don't feel like making sure they're tight, just order the solid thru bolt.
:oink:
Does that help?

Actually if you look at the first run of 04's you will see that there is an additional "bridge" welded in to reinforce the area around the main pivot on the front triangle. On the 2nd run of 04's that just came out the bottom bracket/main pivot has been completely redesigned and is much beefier. The reinforcement extends almost a 1/2" past where you see the crack in the pics. The new swingarm is also much stouter at the main pivot. This was definately more of a problem than just a loose pivot.

The reality is, these kind of things often happen when you have a complete redesign. A good company corrects them as they start to turn up and stands behind the ones that are failing. Turner is that kind of company, honest and competant. I love their products.

Since there has been talk about previous Turner DHR's and their weaknesses, do any of you guys know what to look out for on the '02 frames?

I just bought a used one. It's maiden voyage in Vail last weekend was breathtaking to say the least. So now since I'm so "in love" I need to make sure it's not going to crack on me.

My front triangle is cracked, not on a weld but near where the shock mounts on the DT.

I'm pissed because I'm supposed to be going to Whistler on Sunday.

Mines an 01, think they will do anything about it?
i've seen an '02 break at the shock mount too.

Beautiful. Nicely done with the stickers, I wish I had the patience to do that but I like mine with the oldstyle black stickers.
