Blackspire and Vuelta both make 4/104 36t ramped rings. The Vuelta one didn't last terribly long for me, but shifted great. I've also used an un-ramped 36t Blackspire and it shifted acceptably well. I don't think anybody uses pins except Shimano.
sometimes, chainrings have all kinds of grooves and pins in them to help with shifting -- it gives the chain something to grab onto so it can slide more easily from the 22t to the 36t chainring. Those are called "ramps" or "pins" -- pins are just that, pins, and ramps are any of a variety of shapes carved into the back of the chainring to help w/ shifting.
A chainring without any ramps or pins won't shift as quickly or smoothly as one that has them. There aren't too many people making 36t rings in 4-bolt pattern with ramps, but you can find them in a 5-bolt pattern (which is of no use to you) easily, is all DHS was saying.
