Is it just the bolts that are stripped? Crank threads still fine? Remove the bolts and threaded inserts. Use a crank puller.
If the cranks are stripped as well,... I've been semi-successful with a steering wheel puller on several occassions. I say 'semi-successful' as occassionally the crank was damaged beyond repair during extraction.
I think its just the bolts, but the crank puller I have wont work being theres nothing for it to push against. (if look thru the crank/BB the tube is the same size all the way thru)
ugh, I guess I might have to go to a LBS this time
If it's the actual bolts/screws and not the crank extraction threads that are stripped, then you'll have drill out the bolts/screws and then use a gear puller and a hammer.
(gear puller optional if crank extraction threads are un-damaged and you have clear sight of the end of your BB, in which case you use your crank arm tool)
Once you put tension on the crank arm with the puller, hit the top of crank arm (opposite the pedal threads) sharply with the hammer at the same time as you add MORE tension to the puller.
Provided the crank arms are undamaged (relativly speaking), all you have to do is replace your BB and bolts/screws and you're good to go. Good Luck!
First post on this site. Had to chime in here as I just went through this bit of bike he!!. One extractor tore out of the crankarm, leaving the threads in the crankarm and no means to get it off. Tried drilling it out, but still no joy. Finally took out the dremel with a cut-off wheel, slotted the crankarm, and then got it off with a cold chisel and a hammer. Not elegant. 4 Hours to change a chainring.
try placing a small washer in the crank arm first so your crank puller end has something to but up against. I had to do with with an old set of cranks and BB since the puller end would get suck inside the BB. Just a thought if you are still having issues.
you can also use a dead blow hammer and hammer it off from the back side.
