Well I think it's time for me to start upgrading my trail bike. I currently have Tapered Race Face Turbine cranks with MRP guide. Ya I know, why an MRP on a trail bike? Just didn't want to sink any $$ into it, reason why now I want to upgrade and add a front derailleur.

My options:
1) simply buy 3 rings for the Turbine cranks
2) upgrade to a new ISIS crankset.

what do you suggest?

There is nothing wrong with square taper stuff for xc use. These days incredibly nice square taper bb's and 110 or 94 bcd chainrings sell incredibly cheaply.

Not sure if you saw this thread, but general consensus is square taper on good cranks is fine for XC/trail use, especially since you've already got them. Might be different if you were just building the bike. Since you've already got the Turbines, I say keep em and get a couple two chree rings.

Um, maybe I'm missing something... but chain rings are pretty dang cheap at my LBS. ~$60 for the 3 rings... lasted me 3 years.
