The world's largest mountain bike festival finished less then 24 hours ago in Whistler BC.

Kokanee Crannkworx saw the largest crowd in its 8-year history participate in the 9-day festival. Specialized's Darren Berrecloth stunned the crowds by winning the Best Trick contest on Thursday with a massive look back 360 on the final jump of the slopestyle contest.

This set the stage for Darren to go for the gold at the Monster Energy Slopestyle Saturday afternoon.

The massive crowd of 20,000 was cheering his name as he dropped into his first run in the field of 16. A huge fan favorite the Specialized/Red Bull rider attacked the course and made quick work of the rest of the field with a flawless run and a massive 360 off the judges' tower.

As Darren neared the finish line, it seemed obvious that he was going to end up in first place, and the crowd went wild. To cap it off, Darren went for a similar 360 that won him the best trick two days earlier. Unfortunately, on the landing disaster struck as he compressed through his front suspension and hit the ground hard!

He immediately got to his feet and went over to the announcer. While he was breaking down the run to the crowd, he admitted having some serious pain in his hand. After a lengthy stay at the Whistler hospital, x-rays showed that he had indeed broken his hand. Tough luck for

a very tough competitor.

We wish the Claw a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him again in 6 weeks time at the Red Bull Rampage in Virgin, Utah.
