So I've got this minor creaking up front which appears to be coming from around the headtube area on my RFX. Since I've got a CK headset (never had a problem with one of these in my life) I'm guessing that my issue could be the crown/steerer or the crown/stanchions which is a bit concerning since the fork is a 2002 DJ1 and I've heard of "bad" things happening to people with this fork. Granted, most people who've had problems broke them within the first month of riding and I'm on month 18 with my DJ1 and it's been a great fork for me so far.

Anything I should check? Can't see anything visually from the crown/stanchion area. Am I being paranoid? Is creaking just a fact of life for the 02 DJ1?

I do my best to keep my bikes in proper working condition with solid parts (not light weight stuff) to ensure that if I get hurt while riding it's the rider's fault not the bike's fault. Been there, done that.

If you can prouce the creaking while standing still, try doing it while putting your finger across two adjacent surfaces (sliders/arch, stanchions/crown, crown/headtube, etc.). This might help you isolate the problem.

If I had to guess, I would think it's the fork too. Do you have a different fork you can throw on temporarily tosee if it goes away?
