Creaking in the BB area?

I have some creaking sound around the BB area and I was wondering what I should do with it. I was thinking the the BB is just dry and was wondering if greasing the BB threads would take care of it? Is there something in the BB its self that can be greased as well? I don't know if the BB is sealed or not, I am just assuming that it is. Thanks for any help:)

Definitely check the splined interface too, make sure everything is properly torqued and greased, and also check your chainring bolts, pedal tightness, and any pivots in the BB area.

I had a creak that was driving me crazy, I thought it was the BB or BB shell, and after a lot of regreasings, teflon tape, etc I finally found the source, which was one of the chainring bolts. 100% properly torqued, but there wasn't enough grease on the bolt's sleeve, which was causing the creaking.

Aluminum frames really carry and amplify creaking sounds, hard to tell exactly where the source is.

Any problem with using a heavy duty axle grease, like is used for trailer bearings, for the BB threads/crank bolts/spline-crank interface? I would think that would hold up better for longer than MTB grease. Since we're not talking about pivots or bearings or headsets I would think this would be a better solution.

If I recall, David Turner actually suggested I use Axle grease on the main pivot of my DHR since even though I have to use Manitou Prep M on my RFX pivots and the smaller pivots on the DHR.
