headset would be my first guess. are you running reducer cups or a reduction headset or are you running a fork with a 1.5 steer tube?

your bars can creal in the stem, make sure they're clean.
If that doesn't help, clean your throughaxle, it creaks sometimes too.
If that doesn't help, it could be your headset spacers/cap.
If not that, you broke your headtube. (cracks make a bad screeching noise)

its about 1.5 years old,,,but the bike hasnt been ridden hard at all
the first production double-x headsets had a shallow shoulder on the fork race. It allows the bottom of the headset to wiggle slightly because it does not seat as well. I had the same problem until i stacked a jump and the bottom part of the headset slipped real bad. I drove over to cane creek and they gave me a whole new lower headset at no charge with the updated race/bearing assembly and i have been running it since with no problem whatsoever.

yours would most likely be the old style double-x.

they will respond quickly for you. i can not remember the guys name that helped me but i know that he was super cool and very helpful. They were ripping a dirtbike around the lawn when i got there to pick up my headset.

Are you using the plastic spacers that come with the headset, if so that's what's creaking.
do you mean the stack washers that raise the stem? the nylon ones?

Yep, the interlocking spacers meant to raise or lower the stem. I fought mine for weeks cleaning everything with alcohol, lubricating everything instead, cleaning with alcohol again, tightening things untill they stripped, swearing, hitting stuff with a hammer, finally I put in some aluminum spacers and the creaking went away.
