I just got a 2002 Monster T for my bike, but the headtube is 6.5 inches. The fork came with the drop crown but I had to drop the lower crown so it's covering the mark on the stanchions for minimum crown height. Can this mark be aligned with the top of the lower crown or should it only be aligned with the bottom of the lower crown?

Thanks for the help.

You should not place the "LOWER" triple clamp beyond that step on the stanchions. that step is there for a reason. if the 6.5" steertube is too short to accomodate your head tube, headset and stem, you need a new steertube installed or dont buy the fork if its not too late.

Posting for downy ...

The headtube is 6.5 inches. The steerer tube is much longer than the headtube and should even be cut (I just added a bunch of spacers temporarily). The problem is that the stanchions aren't long enough. What I need to know is what constitutes the lower crown being below the mark. If it's ok to have the lower crown covering the mark, then I'm fine (this makes the most sense because the stanchions obviously haven't been cut).

it seems that you shouldn't have the crown below the mark, even the lower part of the crown. If you can compress the fork (with the springs removed) and the tire doesn't bottom on the crown you're probably okay for the short term. I'd look into getting a longer crown or a zero stack headset though.

You don't by chance have the stack of spacers below the upper crown do you? Just questioning the obvious.

Turns out everything is ok ... thanks for the help though. I called Marzocchi (should have just done that from the start) and they said the bottom crown should be 3 mm BELOW that mark. It's all good ... thanks.
