Hello!

Just got my new fork and it'll be my first crown race installation. Should I grease the steer tube or not before installation?

Google doesn't seem to know for sure if grease should be applied or not on the steer tube before installing the crown race.

Thanks!

Some assembly grease is definitely a good idea if you ever want to be able to remove it. Waterproof grease will do just fine too.
"Just some spit" isn't going to cut it...
OK, thanks! I saw some instructions recommending to install the crown race "dry" (which I found a bit surprising) and others recommending using a thin coat of grease.

Personally, I would have applied grease before the installation, but I was wondering if there was something I didn't know that could justify not using any grease at all.

Thanks again!

I always go in dry, coz, fuck bikes!

I have more of an issue with people calling a bearing seat a race, if it doesn't touch balls or a roller it's not a race.
Get off my lawn.

It's going to creak before lack of race lube does anything...
