Wouldn't that make it a lot lighter? Sort of the same idea as the Avalanche DH8 ti race. Get a beefier spring and a little heavier oil and loose like a pound or something?

I don't know, I searched and nobody seems to have talked about this recently, and I've never used shivers. They sure are sexy and cheap though!

i was going to try this along with my air spring mod but decided against it since i didnt want to pony up for a new cartridge should i over stress it.

Oh right, I didn't think about that...maybe the cartridge would crack....
Still, I wonder how long it would last? Has anyone actually cracked a cartidge inside a fork without breaking the actual fork itself?

if i remeber it correct some guys in britain did this to their shivers (no not seb) supposedly they also got custom springs made so they could use one leg as a spring only and the other for damping only.

maybe ask around in some british forums.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, especially if you had it setup for race.
ie, fast rebound, light spring weight. Try to tune it so it could handle 15ft drops and you would probably start breaking stuff.

Don't forget to leave some oil in the dry leg for lube.

the cart wouldnt crack, but you could damage the shims making the damper useless. So who knows how long the cart would last; to me its not worth finding out.

And if you want to experiment I have two 2001 cartridges in the basement you can get super cheap (sorry for the spam)

Both my carts have damaged shims. Anyways, I think thats what it is. I can look in the port in the side and see something loose that looks like it shouldn't be. Amazingly, the fork works fine as long as it has fresh oil.
