So now my DOC is "in the mail" and my build kit is waiting at the LBS I've got a question: If I'm setting up my DOC as a single-speed do I need to use my SRS on there? My first impulse is no, since there won't be any slack in the chain - but I'd like a professional opinion on this matter before I build ;)

I'm going to be dirt jumping almost exclusively on this bike btw. :thumb:

nope, the tensioners work great. You could if you wanted to still run the SRS, i actually have my DOC single speed right now for a bit because my derailur broke and just left the guide on and it helped with tensioning the chain properly.
If your keeping it permanently single speed and running a bmx setup you can get a half link for your chain if it doesnt work out satisfactory enough, you'd maybe have to do that to run it all the way foward in the drops if you wanted to do that. Its just a bit of trial and error getting it right, luckily the tensioners in the dropouts work so well it makes things real easy.

Sounds like I'll go without for simplicity - I can always throw it on if need be - I'm going with dedicated single-speed for now -I'll keep the cog, der etc. laying around for if I change my mind - but since I jump mostly in the same place all the time & never shift when I'm there anyway - ss should be the best way to go

I love how silent ss's are on the jumps

I'm going to be running my DOC as a single speed too. I'm going to just use the tensioners i've seen the drops on pipers bike and they look very impressive. I was supposed to have my frame today but i missed the UPS guy.

are the frames bb cups and headtube all pre-faced?

I emailed evil about the frame requiring face/chase and this is a direct quote from John P.
"We will do our best to get the frame completely ready to roll, but you should definitely have a shop prep it before you build it up."

btw this was back in early december.

This is a email i got today from heikki "The heatube and bottom brackets were reamed, faced and chased before they were painted. The headtube and bottom bracket were masked off during the paint so everything should be ready to assemble when you receive the frame. If you would like to remove the slight amount of paint on the outside of the bottom bracket shell then it should not be a hard task to accomplish"

keep in mind, that slight amount of paint might keep your bottom bracket from spinning as good as it should.

would it be a bad idea to get it faced and chased again (bb and headtube) at my lbs just incase or would that be taking too much metal off? :O

It really shouldn't need it, plus, the head tube material is REALLY strong and hard, a lot stronger and harder than regular 4130. If ou need to, clean it up with an x-acto knife, but really you shouldn't have to.

hmmm..your experience with your DOC seems to contradict what dw was saying - so perhaps is it a frame by frame issue in terms of facing and chasing?

i don't think getting it done will hurt anything...so why not do it anyway?

for sure... yeah, i don t want to say that dw isn t on the mark... i have found the guy to be more than helpful, him and the rest of the e13 / evil clan... nothing but praise from me... just commenting on my frame... my BB area was particularly rough... no worries tho'... 10 mins and it s all done...

Just like Heikki said, every frame is faced and chased immediately before paint at the factory. The BB and head tube are masked off, and the bike is painted. Sometimes paint can get under the masking, so you can clean this off with an xacto, or re face if you want. On the head tube, the material is so hard that it will eat up tools a lot faster than a normal bike, so i suggest cleaning it up with a razor (carefully)

135-150 in-lbs.

You can basically crank them down.
