and is having a farm in your backyard prerequisite to being a "city person?" if so, then im totally a city person. :rolleyes:

Everyone, thanks for the great reviews and info!

I'm looking at getting a used Taco and the Shuttlenuts rack combined w/ cmoney & bullcrew's suggestion may be the best way to go.

It's one thing to eat it in a rock garden, it's another to get your bike jacked up during transport.....:mad:

And yes, I'm super anal about my bikes & vechiles (just ask my team mates), I work too damn hard for both.

I felt the same way. Looks like a good product, but huge website fail. It was nice seeing the trails i used to ride daily being used, but... seeing the product would be nice.

Just curious if it is just mine but, My Dakine - after only 1 or 2 uses the seams where the straps attach began to pull apart and progressively more after a few more runs. I have only used it about 5-6 times and it has gotten much worse. I asked a friend and he had similar issues with his. Another friend of mine had one custom made by an upholstry shop that fits his truck perfect and no stitching issues. He paid more but, that thing is solid and should last til he retires!

We've had ours for four years, and one of the straps just busted a few months ago. It got left on most of the time though and really only got taken off maybe 5 or 6 times total in those four years.

Hey now... they are just getting started and I am sure more than willing to sell you something despite the website. Mac is a cool dude, and they are trying to do something unique and useful. I totally agree that the website is sub-par, but they are brand new and I don't even think they have an MSRP and may not even have anything available yet (outside of the racks they have hooked up for locals).

Just sayin'...

I was "just sayin'" that pictures would do the product more justice than a helmet cam video. Its not that hard to take a still picture of a product you want to sell. Pictures are worth a thousand words..remember that one?

On the other hand I can see having the video to ward off potential biters wanting to copy the design and I'm sure they are good peeps wanting to help the mtb community. Good luck to those guys.

In my experience the Dakine pad was great for road travel but if your going to shuttle and like your bike at all its a bad idea. It beats the hell out of your downtube. I would recommend some sort of heavy duty hitch rack. If you have a truck just build a wood rack.

The DaKine pad was redesigned for this year. It's been updated with a bigger foam top panel to protect the downtube and a new inner liner to be more gentle on tailgate paint. Also has built in blocks on each end to prevent bikes from sliding into the corners.

been using one of those on my truck since '06 and love it!
I have the small version for my Tacoma and have fit 6 bikes on it...take your pick,a bike rack that holds 4 bikes for $450 or a pad for $65....it's a no brainer!

Large is better. It's a little big for the Tacoma, but covers the whole tailgate. IMO, the small is too small.

Maybe the newer version is different. I knew a couple buddies were complaining that had the small pad that had Tacomas. I have an 04 Tundra and have a large. There's a couple inches on either side.

New pads also have tie-downs so the bikes stay put. Just make sure to line up the thicker foam piece on the top of the tail gate. I see so many DK pads that are pulled way too far down.

Haven't they been around for a couple years? All it takes to have a web site that works any more is a high school kid with Dreamweaver and a week's supply of Red Bull and Cheetos to keep him going.

I have an 09 tacoma, with the small Yakima Pad. Fits great, and you're not just another Dakine bro.

The Yakima has the soft fleece on the underside of the pad, that touches the tailgate- just like the Dakine.

Both will be the exact same wear wise, just don't keep your pad on the truck all the time. It WILL destroy the paint on the tailgate, if you do so.
