Nam I am
It wasfianlly nice out for the ride home . I needed to go by Milford Bikesand pick up a helmet that Noskills had dropped off for me. so I was taking a route I really had not used in a long time. I was cruising along a Nice quite street at a good clip when about 50 yards in front of me these 5 cyclist come out of a side street in a pace line. I quickly sprinted and got on the tail of it . Now therse 5 Guys I'd say mid 20's and I'd guess Tri-ataletes , Aero TT bikes, 3 of them had the same jersey, Shorts , helment , bike ,etc .

well they looked at me strange as I moved through there pace line ( I figured it was the back pack, which should have given them a good draft) when It came my turn to pull, I pulled and Pulled hard like you are suppose to , when I dropped off for the next guy I relized I might have pulled a little too hard for these guys as they weren't holding together too well. they didn't say anything but they were giving me some dirty looks , any way I went through the rotation a 2nd time , this time I went a little easier and it worked well. when I went up and took my 3rd pull I herd the guy who had just dropped off say someting to the other riders as he went past , well I did my pull, and as I was about halfway back dropping the front guy yells "sprint" , all 5 get out out the saddle and start sprinting , I follow suit , It really seamed like a deliberate attempt to drop me. I was able to keep up with them , but they lost one of there own. :) so we continued on taking turns and We got to a Hill (I know the hill , the first part is not too bad , about a 1/2 mile then it levels off for a bit them it goes up at a steeped incline for about 1/3 of a mile ) I had just done my Pull just before the start of the hill and as we start up the hill the 4 remaining all jump out of there saddles and up the hill, I stayed seated and was able to hang with them. we get to the level spot ( and we are now down to 3 of them since they just dropped one more and put the last guy in serious distress ) , and they are laboring , I don't feel too bad , so I decided it is time for me to put the hammer down on these fools! we got back into the pace line and just as we start to slow down a little as we start up the steeper portion I drop it down one gear out of my saddle and off I go! the one guy stayed close for a little but he dropped off , But now I am starting to relize I jumped too early , still about 100 yards to the top and my legs are screaming ! I didn't care , I pushed through it ! as I topped the hill I looked back and could see they were scattered the closest guy being about 200 yards away. then I just coasted down the down hill. and they did not catch me . then I turned off because I did go a little out of my way to stay with these guys .

But dam that was fun! One of those things that will make me think I'm faster than I really am!

Thats a cool story. Sometimes when I am working on my bike groups of roadies will go past my house up my hill and I will ride after them in my flip flops, and since I'm nice and fresh it's funny when they start swearing at me because im passing them on a mtn bike with like six inches of travel and sandals.

Sweetness. I love passing dudes on their nice expensive-like-carbon-ey roadie bikes while riding my sh!tbox commuter, baggy shorts, and backpack. :thumb:

Awesome story! I, too, commute to and from campus during the fall & early spring. One time, I remember, I was just cruising out of my office building (ie: the science library) when I saw a roadie headed down the street. I thought "what the hell?" and caught up to him. Followed the guy for a good 5 or 6 miles and kept a decent distance on him ... that is, until he realized I was following him and took off like a bat out of hell.

That was my one of my favorite commutes home, even though it took me about 20 minutes in the wrong direction. :D

Well, if they were doing some kind of workout, all I would have said is "We're doing a workout, would you mind dropping off?"

If not, nice to smoke them...

Thank you :)

but I'm a roadie , they weren't roadies they were tri-geeks
I'm glad you pointed out - there is a difference. (and what were tri-geeks riding in a paceline for anyway?) assuming they had their aero bars, you've gotta be crazy to ride with them.
