My understanding of the fifth is it is there to create a stable platform for a suspension design that is not inherantly stable.
There's a lot more to a stable platform shock than the pedalling platform. All the pneumatic adjustments allow for a really fine tuned ride, plus a lighter spring rate.

Why does Specialized INSIST on putty HUFFY graphics on SX and Big Hit models?

I know they are supposed to make you go faster.... at least that's what they did for me on my huffy when I was 6.

I think specialized should have contests at Interbike, the first person to guess how many "s" symbols are on the bike takes it home.

Actual bike question......

Does it look like the 05 SX models have the extra beefy welds?

In other words there doesn't appear to be anything special about the SX frames over the Reg. Enduro FRAMES except a few deg. of geometry and some ghey stickers.

Anybody else got a closer view at interbike?

I'm just trying to re-affirm my love for my 04 SX :D

They need to quit routing the cables under the down tube - its not a road bike, so the cables will probably get bashed or snagged - especially the front derailluer cable. Giant use to do that on all their bikes, but they finally fixed it on their newer bikes like the STP and Maestro bikes...

It makes sense that they should, but I've never had a problem with this ever.
I've never smacked my bottom bracket on a rock either....and I don't race DH.

Anyone else?

Yeah well if you don't run a dual ring setup, its not an issue. Its definately an issue - something can snag the cable hanging down that low:

Hmm, it looks like all the Maestro bikes but the Faith have the fixed cable routing

They did change the rear brake and derailleur routing on the 05's. I don't run a front derailleur on my 04, but unless you're doing ledge grinds or trials, I think the routing should be relatively safe. I've never seen any major gouges on any of my bb's, all the way back to my old Zaskar, which also had cables routed under the bb.

The cable sticks out infront of the bashguard, I am not saying you are going to hit your BB.

I can't imagine the green bike is supposed to be like that.

Just looks like crappy assembly to have the Front Der. cable hanging out like that.

I hate the downtube cables. It is the whole reason i am getting rid of a front derailler on my bighit dh cause i ate through those cables to the point of i would just lock the cable in the big ring and leave it.

Were you just slamming your downtube through rock gardens or something?

Just wondering... I've never had any problems with the cable routing on any of my spesh bikes.

Since the new Enduro's have been beefed up across the line, there wasn't as much need to alter the SX's. Last year only the SX's had "Cobra" headtubes and a seat tube gusset, now all Enduro's do, etc. The SX (race) has a slightly shorter chainstay, lower BB and less travel to make it perfect for 4X. The SX trail has the same frame as the regular Enduro's but with considerably beefier components and coil springs.

In order to understand the specific purpose of the new Enduro's, you have to compare them to something relevant (other '05 Enduro models) not to the older ones.

I'm sure they are worthy of our lust. ;)

Hmmm...I've never had a problem with a DT routed cable on a bike. Actually, once, my Tomac 204 came out of the clamp on my rack (thule big mouth) and the cable under the BB caught the clamp, preventing the bike from falling off my roof.

I rode at snowshoe a lot and the stuff i rode i had ot skip through rock gardens to make it through. Also somewhere along the lines between denver co and whistler i cut open the cable. I have problems with hitting rocks with my bighit as i tend to pick my way through rock gardens and skip over them a lot and they will kick up a lot at the tube.

They are welded by machines, but I do trust in machines. :)
Huh? No machine on earth can make those welds. They're welded by hand, just like every other welded bike on earth. The only difference is the Taiwanese welders are actually consistently good at what they do.

interesting point you have, there. arent ALL bike frames, in effect, handbuilt? sure some of the bits might be stamped out, cnc'd or hydroformed, but the actual assembly of bits is by hand welding. so when a company touts their frames as being "handbuilt" is this not just marketing bunk?

I'm not sure about that, I remember the Spec. Rep saying that some of the welds are robotic, like the two hydroformed sections on the top of the Big Hit and older Enduro. In either case they are nicer weld than you'll see on most bikes out there.

True!

It's funny because people should pay more attention to how the QC dept. checks the welds instead of whether it was a man or a machine that welded it.

Yes, certain sections of 2-axis welds can be done by machine. In fact my provisional patents on one of those methods is due to expire soon. However, that's basically used to create a big funny-shaped tube that has to be welded by hand to the rest of the bike.

To my knowledge, my design had a greater proportion of machine welding than any other design the public has seen, but it still wasn't 100%. Basically any bike that has a tube butted against another tube will have to be welded by hand. At least for the foreseeable future...

I wish someone her actually knewq something about welding, because I'm pretty shure about 80% of the comments made about welds are made by people who don't know ****. Don't ask me though, I don't know $hit

Are you joking? I spent two years and a whole lot of mostly someone else's money developing welding technology specifically for the manufacture of bicycle frames.
