Came across this. It looks too grass roots to be an actual McCain approved ad, but it struck home nontheless. I think if they showed this on TV, it would cheeze BarrO off pretty bad.

I'd be interested in what the 2 million displaced Iraqi refugees and the 1 million dead have to say about the occupation.

Wow, lost his leg for a horrible mistake of a war, and now unwittingly being used for blind partisan hackery and smear. He's just a glutton for punishment ain't he?

Hit close to home cuz his message is similar to the stories my pastor told me. He's a Marine Chaplain. He showed me before, during, and after pics of a neighborhood outside of baghdad.

Before- few children playing
During- no children playing
After- too many children playing

I've lost 17 brothers in arms since we went into afghanistan, 6 of those I went to BCT with. I have 6 friends who are now wearing prosthetic legs, arms, or, both. The general consensus I've picked up from them and their families is that regardless of the reasons for going in, the current mission is to rebuild, renew, and to help the Iraqui people start a new "free" government.

Do you understand the definition of "mistake" and what is being referred to as a mistake here?

Because the dude in the video absolutely does not.

Just because we can't afford to yank everyone out now and we are attempting to pull something good out of the clusterf**k over there, doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake to go in. It's the same crap as the "support our troops" nonsense. Supporting the troops has exactly nothing to do with criticizing the war.

The video was a disgusting exercise in pandering to the sympathies of those who have no critical thinking skills.

The reason we went in there was false and the reason we are still there is the inability of the current administration to admit that they made a mistake.

I weep for the future of our military due to this mistake.

e: the irony of having a picture of MLK in that song

Whenever I fly I see plenty of military folks. I often see regular people going up to them and saying 'thanks'. I think it is really cool but I always feel like saying 'sorry'.

Hell yeah! We need to free the North Koreans and the Chinese next!

Boy won't there be some great speeches about freedom then!

I know the feeling.

I worked with the retention officer for 6 months when I was with the guard and after talking to all the guys returning from Iraq about the experience and trying to get them to reenlist, it was clear how bad things were.

I quit because I heard too many stories from the guardsmen that made me question all the wrong things. I couldn't listen to these guys, then honestly ask them to re-up regardless of the paycheck or the bonuses they were being offered.

For active duty guys, it's a little easier because a lot of them go in with full understanding of whats involved. But the majority of guys that join the guard are led to believe that they serve Oregon first and Iraq is not our domain.

I got into a lot of trouble for putting soldiers first. But in the end, I felt better about what I was doing. A good friend of mine gave up being a recruiter because he refused to outright lie to guys coming in. He felt obligated to tell people the truth and that goes against everything a recruiter is trained to do.

I think going to war with Iraq was a huge mistake.

Now that we are there, things are better. But we have never gone to war because it was the right thing to do.

I think of oppressive governments from Parguay to Somalia, and we didn't go into any of those countries because of either the threat of a bigger war or they had nothing we wanted.

Unfortunately, now that we are in Iraq, it is important to complete the mission there. It is horrible we have to finish there, but I don't hate McCain for saying 100 years. It might take that long.

You can't win an occupation. There isn't a way for us to "finish" anything. They have no idea what they are doing, we have no idea what they are doing, so when is enough enough?

Yes, it sucks over there. But there is no way to win, or finish, or accomplish a mission with no defined goals. They have proven time and again that the government we tried to impose lacks the ability to make decisions and we can't make decisions for them.

The ONLY option is to bow out slowly and gracefully before we lose any more people and chalk it up to experience.

Are they? Iraq is the most dangerous country to live in, women's rights have disappeared, there is a severe lack of security, and the infrastructure is terrible.

I'm trying to figure out how self-aware this post is. Any estimates from the crowd?
I started to type a post along those lines, but it was only going to be funny if he recognized the irony - so on that long shot, I dropped it.

But Sadam is dead, doesn't that mean ANYTHING?

I guess it doesn't.
