Slacking at work
So it turns out that a printer I worked on like 13 years ago here, could end up being a big deal. Apparently there aren't too many people still around who know this engine, and I'm one of them. There's this new printer based on it, and they desparately need people to travel around the world as a system specialist while they launch this printer. Supposedly there are big incentives because they can't find enough people to do this job. I dunno how I feel about traveling around all the time, I'm sure my cat won't appreciate it, but damn, they are talking about some nice incentive$$$ here

I have to go meet some managers this afternoon, one of whom I worked with way back when. The fact that he's a bigwig now probably means if I want the job I have it...

And no it doesn't affect my Old Pueblo plans, although it might interfere with Dalton next year.

If it's for big dough, do it. If it is truly for a rollout. That shouldn't take more than a year or two. Not to mention, you may get to work with hot chicks. Every time we got a new printer at McLane, the software chick with the installer was smokin hot.

Also, if you consider it a temporary thing where you can do some travelling and earn some good money for a few years - it's not like you're locked into it forever...

Sounds good, though, congrats anyway on the opportunity even if you don't take it!

Echo - think of all the places you could visit - extend your stay a day and go ride amazing trails all over the place. Just a thought.
It is a great thought, but almost never works out since your time will be carefully scheduled for you. Arrive in the evening, get up and work, leave the next day for the next place.

Also, you never get to see the places you go except for hotels, airports, taxis, and the place you're working. It is actually pretty grueling. You should find out the length of time they'll have you doing this and see if it's something you can/want to do. If you do it purely for the $$$$$ you'll hate it in a very short time.

See I already don't really like my job, and I really only do it for the money. So if I can make a bunch more money doing something I don't really like, well, seems like a no brainer :p

I think if I had only minimal ties to staying home on a daily/weekly basis I would get out as much as possible IE traveling job.

Seems to me your only concern with traveling is your cat.

Hmmm, I would probably say no. I value freedom too much. Traveling and staying in hotels just isn't for me, I've had to do it before. I like MY bed, and MY house, MY friends...if you thought you'd have enough time to chill at all these places and check out riding then that would be another thing.

Yeah there would have to be riding opportunities for sure. Meeting's in about 25 minutes, after that I'll know a lot more details...

You can give your cat to the crazy lego lady (see "Legos Kick Ass" thread). then you go tour around the world making the bling and riding the bikes and such.
You won't even have to miss the cat. Just log in every now and then and there will be pics of the cat chillin' in chapel.

I quote my soon to be father in law...

"Travel. Travel as often as you can, any way you can. Go places. See the world. You'll thank yourself later andf everytime you go."

Sounds like a cool gig.. you go to a new place, work with the people and by the time they are really pissing you off, it's time to leave. :)

I think there is a difference between Travel and Business Travel for the most part.

Every business trip I have taken the last few years, I have found time to go riding and see the sights. It just takes a little bit of planning and the willingness to add a day to your trip on either end. And it doens't hurt to have generous monkeys loan you equipment and/or show you trails. ;)

Granted, I have "only" taken like 8 or 10 business trips in recents years. Not exactly a full time travel position.

Oh, me too! I generally take the weekend before a conference and then all the time between the end of it and the following weekend to see the sights. Much of the success of this also depends on the culture of the company.

I just know plenty of people who travel pretty much full-time and this is what they tell me.
