Hello,

I've been reading a lot of good pedal threads the last few weeks, but I can't find much about which pedal has a good deep concave.
I broke my Atomlab Aircorp last week-end and I'm looking for a good replacement with (as much or) more grip than my Aircorps.
My aircorps warranty is expired

I have a few pedals selected :

- 24 Toaster - very big cage and 12 pins per side, but does it have some concave ?
- F.u.n.n. Soljam Vipers - looks like it has a deep concave ?
- Brave machine Killah pedals - lots of sharp edges and no pins, like the BMW pedals
- Shimano PD MX-30 - don't know much about this pedal
- Truvativ Holzfeller - has 'some' concave, but don't know how they grip
- ....other suggestions are welcome

So my ? is : Which pedals have a deep concave and good grip in the mud ?
I ride a lot in sticky mud and other wet conditions so a sealed pedal is a must.

thanks.

Which mental did you order? The Stainless steal version is the only one out so far and they weigh almost double of a normal pedal. I tried to order their alloy version and it wont be out till the first of the year.

...not much of a concave, but the grip of the Azonic A frame is super ncie, they are burly and not that expensive ! Bought them after trashing my Atomics.

i think that the A frames have a decent amount of concave. mostly due to the fact that the pins are set pretty high when you buy them. if you wear the pins down, the concave will go bye-bye.

I have a pair of azonics aframe too, but they're quite old and used so i changed for the mental. Yes they are stainless stell, heavy slugs but it's not that I dont care about weight but i think it's one important thing on a bike so it can be a little heavier, last longer and love em better:)

- The Syncros Mentals, the Xpedo MX pedals and the NYC Glory Holes
look real nice, but I don't think they are available over here (Belgium, the Netherlands or Germany).
Maybe an european online shop carry them, but I've never seen them outside the US.
- The Easton Cully's are 150 euro and that's just too much.

So what's left :

-Azonic A frames - almost everybody seems to like this pedal.
-Easton Flatboys - I had this one on my HT, Liked em a lot but they are kinda expensive (and flat)
-Truvativ Holzfeller - had good experience with Truvativ products (but the pins look tiny ??)
-24 Toasters - very popular over here, but almost no concave.
- Soljam Vipers - that 3M piece in the middle is it ok for wet and muddy conditions ? It looks slippery when wet ?

mmm though decision.

The Xpedo and Syncros pedals are cool but where can you get them? BTI and QBP are all out of stock of Xpedo and Syncros...... well they carry the SS sycros at 800g!!! but not that mag or alloy version. The Glory Holes are cool but no one has them in silver and no one has the race version. The search continues

Wait for the new Speedplay flats they most definetly have the most concave although I only saw them at the trade show... we'll see the production models in january. Also, I believe the funn models have decent concave.

I think Todson distributes Xpedo pedals...that is where I got mine.

The Profile Racing Gas Pedal, Easton Flatboy or Cullys, Kore Elite all have concave and are strong pedals.
Do not get the Gas Pedals for performance. I have them and the pins suck for gripness because they are so wide. I even replaced my pins for longer ones. I rather use my Tioga pedals (that I got cheap) and have the Gas Pedals as a showpiece.
Listen if you if your buying new pedals for 05' then you have to get the new NYC Freeride stuff.

I can't make up my mind between red or the gold bling. I've seen Pro's using these pedals all year and they broke crankarms before these pedals. Very durable and proven to me.

primo tenderizers have a good amount of concave, although they are really tall pedals.
Damn, you and the post above said exactly what I was going to reccomend.
The Primo pedals are the most concave I've ever tried, though you pay for that in stack height. You can get them in sealed bearing, and magnesium too, which makes for a nice pedal... but I found the platform to be a bit too narrow for my big hoof.
The Odyssey JC's have a great shape, low, fairly concave, but the pins are small and don't give heaps of grip (great for grinds though). But you could replace the pins and have a good all-round pedal.
My friend reccomends the Odyssey Twisteds, but I've never tried them so can't really judge, but he says they're similar to the JC's, not as concave, but a bit wider.
Another one to get a mention is the DMR V8's, they might fit the bill with the optional extra long pins, but they're not a pedal for big feet.
See how you go with BMX pedals, they seem to have alot more options when it comes to concave pedals than MTB does.

Buy the real Brooklyn pedals. They're great. When riding in good conditions the stick to you! In muddy conditions, they stick as good as "normal" pedals do in dry conditions.

Buy them. Sorted.

Yeah - except the guy was asking about concave pedals, because he prefers the feel of concave. And the Brooklyn's have zero concave, as well as lots of complaints from riders who say that they grip worse than many other pedals because there are too many pins.

We know that you like everything that Brooklyn makes, but c'mon - help the guy with his ACTUAL question!

the shinburgers i tried were actually less grippy than the pin pedals i use now(wellgos). maybe they were just worn, but it seems like they have too much flat surface area (the many teeth all have flat tops) to bite into the shoe surface - compared to the 10 or so narrow pins that actually sink into the rubber. think of a bed of nails analogy. the easton cullys have really long pins - i couldnt imagine a pedal much more grippy than that - almost too grippy, as you have to lift your foot a bit to reposition, rather than easily rotate.

rpet - I am trying to help this guy out. The shinburgers are concave. I have had lots of different pedals Wellgo, S & M etc. Mostly BMX. However the shinburgers still stick the best in my experience. Sorry. It's just my opinion and the guys asked, so he gets my answer, so maybe YOU should concentrate on helping the guy out instead of being an ass towards me.

I think the BMWs looks nice, but in the woods in muddy conditions I am not sure they would be nice. I have heard from quite some people that they pack up ! Any experience Macmx ?

Yeah they pack up, but I haven't had any problems with the grip because of it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. KORE ELITE PLATFORM PEDALS.

Another thread asked for big platforms: Kore Elite.
Another was on strong spindles/bearings: Kore Elite
Another on good for grip: Kore Elite
And now for concave: Kore Elite
