UPDATE: Focus on the Family announced this afternoon that 202 jobs will be cut companywide — an estimated 20 percent of its workforce. Initial reports bring the total number of remaining employees to around 950.

In all, Focus pumped $539,000 in cash and another $83,000 worth of non-monetary support into the measure to overturn a California Supreme Court ruling that allowed gays and lesbians to marry in that state. The group was the seventh-largest donor to the effort in the country. The cash contributions are equal to the salaries of 19 Coloradans earning the 2008 per capita income of $29,133.

as far as ministries go, this one was flush w/ cash & paid the most competitive salaries. but, as the economy turned south of heaven, the first thing to dry up is donations, which comprise 96% of focus's budget.

i wonder if these cuts will mean less focus on winning back gays, or sounding the clarion about the perils of indoctrination of our children from spongebob

i have good friends & neighbors who work in broadcasting & media review, and these positions are practically untouched. those who got the axe were given a week's notice, with severance up to 8 weeks. january - nat'l suicide month - is going to be especially cruel.

As long as it's bigots committing suicide, I'm all for it. I'll even chip in with 6' of rope and a box of ammo. Also, this should come under some "hate" legislation and they should lose their non-profit, religious group status. They are nothing but bigots and lobbyists anyways. Just curious, what do you mean, winning back gays?

Cause I think Focus on the Family is not exactly on the gays' side.
