HTC-Highroad's John Degenkolb has taken his second victory of the season winning stage one of Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen in a 200 person bunch sprint.

"It was super nice," said sport director Jens Zemke. "I was so happy with the way they all rode today. We have so many young riders here - five riders under 23 and four of the riders here are new in the team and they all raced so well together."

The race was well controlled by RadioShack who had the top three placings in the General Classification going into Saturday's stage.

"They are very strong here and controlled the bunch all day not letting any break get over three minutes," added Zemke. " Towards the end of the day [Patrick] Gretsch tried to get away to take some seconds as he is only a couple of second out of second place overall. But RadioShack controlled that too."

"Our plan for a sprint was to ride for Mark Renshaw if he had good legs but coming towards the finish he gave the green light to Degenkolb to go for the win as it was a very hard uphill finish."

"It was a crazy finish with so many people left in the bunch but the guys did a great job in the leadout and Renshaw did the final job for Degenkolb into the finish.

"It's super nice success for such a young guy. He's feeling good and he has some confidence now with two wins already this season."

Tomorrow's final stage is 195km from Nieuwpoort to Ichtegem.

"With RadioShack so strong here there won't be a lot to do tomorrow but we'll look to see if we can do a bit of damage in the GC."
