Of course I did that but how do I know if they are reputable etc.... I don't want to buy a crappy battery.

I got a generic replacement for my Dell and it's much better than the original battery. There's no maker name on it but the key point is it was "Made in Japan". Panasonic and Sanyo make battery replacement for Dell so I'd start there.
