Demo 8 sizing question?

I'm looking into getting a new Demo 8, and I'm just trying to figure out what size people are riding. It just seems like the effective top tube is either too short on the small size, or too long on the medium. The small is almost an inch shorter than my bike now, and the medium is close to an inch longer. Any help would be appreciated, I'm just looking right now and trying to figure out which one to get.

I have ridden a large Demo9 and it felt really good although it was much longer that my Stinky and what is normally my size. I am 5'10" and usually a medium.

Hope that helps in some way.

Dave, call up Kash and ride his medium Demo9 to get a feel for it. Maybe that will give you a better idea.

Don't you have the stem as short as possible on your Orange?

Hmmmmmm... I guess I need to just try a few. So the one that Kash has is a Medium? Even that felt short. I'll try again, I could always figure out what it might be like with a touch longer stem and the seat railed back. I'm about 5'9" as well, if that helps. The stem is almost as short at possible, it is still much longer than the Specializeds. I'll have to call up Kash and see whats up, I should try to find a shop that has a small in stock as well.

It just seems weird that Beaverbiker is riding a medium and he is 6'3", and I would be riding the same size bike being 6 inches shorter than him.

if it helps , i am 6 ft and i ride a d9 medium . it fits great and is very nimble for such massive travel bike . the large is too big in my opinion and i guess i could live with a small for dh .
in the end ,it all comes down to preferences - if u like small bikes and do alot of dh than go with the small ,and if u want to do some climbing (yes , it is very much possble with the demo) and more fr i say go with the medium.

I just found out that I won't realistically be able to get the Demo 8 Pro until January(first shipment is already all paid in full) My new question is should I wait and just ride it out, or should I look into the Demo 9's? I know they are going to be heavier, and the bb is a touch higher, but the weight really that much more? Would it just be a little too heavy for me (5'9", not very big)? I didn't even ask about availability of those, but is it even worth looking at? Thanks.
