Still in the market for a DH rig. I have pared down my options, but the Demo 9 is trying to sneak back onto the short list.

I know that the D9 will be awesome for DH. Will I be regretting it for North Shore?

Between a rock and a hard place.
Not at all. The two ring equipped Demo-9 (and Demo-8 for that matter) will be available this year as well. Tune the shock apporpriately and you can pedal the thing all day. Set the BB height and Head Angle to your liking and "huck it large duuuuude".
It'll take more abuse than you can.

I vote for the Demo 8. I spent a day on the Demo 9 earlier this year, and it just seemed like way too much bike for your average human.

d9 is a good bike for everything, depending on how strong you are.

Also consider the Gemini DH. F-der compatable and has a good compromise on the BB height for freeriding/racing. Low leverage ratio so all your mega hucks wont blow your shock to pieces. The bike is one of the best jumping DH bikes I've ever ridden, it's extremly playfull and is easily buildable to sub 40 lbs.

Who are you from Vashon?? Washington i assume? You a friend of mikes or tage??

The D9 holds its own on the shore. We had a good friend in Nvan (now living on Van Isalnd) who had one and says it ripps.

Maybe in 4 years they will be afordable........ or at least not the "sh!t" anymore so specialized cant justifying charging 3 arms and 6 legs for them.......

Just got back from the shore. The Demo 9 kicked a lot of ass up at Whistler. In North Van it climbed fine (big slow bike) and did great on the straight skinnies, but had issues with the turns. It is a fairly long bike with a heavy/slow back end. It will take some getting used to to finesse it around on elevated turns. Other than that it rips. You just have to decide how important going uphill and slow technical turning is for you. If you want to go downhill fast with a ton of room for error, the Demo 9 rocks.
