Have a chance tog et a set of Shimano Deore mechanical disc brakes with rotors, new in box, for $100.
Are they worth it?
I ride a lot or urban, a fair amount of trails, and not much freeride here in Florida, lol. This is my first shot at trying disc brakes, so be gentle ...

My only experience with shimano mechanicals is through a friend that has one on the front of his trials bike, and it sucks. I've heard from a couple people that they pretty much suck compared to Avid mechanicals.

Zen, ignore this guy. He's a child with an axe to grind and will never give an unbiased response to anything Shimano.

I've only felt them once, and my impression is that they are underpowered. This is probably because they were designed for the recreational crowd.

I'm riding Avids, which may even be a little overpowered, and I swear by them.

i have some SPDs that i ride that work great. i dont have the brakes. my friends dont like them i havent used them

I've decided to go with Avids, thanks for everyones opinions. Well, most of them anyway, lol.
