Well, as has been said in prior posts, I often have dumb questions, so here's another one:

How do I determine the clamp size of my front derailleur?
I have a 4-1/2" seat tube thickness but the only options when I wanted to buy a new derailleur were 28.6mm or a 31.8mm clamp size.

What am I missing ... ?

I just bought a new XT derr and it looks like the only option now is to choose wich swing you need. It came with spacers to fit any tube- like the Deore has been for years.
