I had no idea that Detroit had gotten so empty. I knew that quite a bit of urban farming was/is starting to take place in the city due to so many vacant lots, but this place is a ghost town.

Detroit proper has been a wasteland for quite some time.
It's gotten a lot of press lately due to $5 houses etc but, while I remember when the factories were nearly all running, the place has been ****ed for at least 20yrs now. All the 'new' press looks just like when I fled 24 years ago. The surrounding areas have changed for the worse much more dramatically over the past decade that the city has.

a buddy of mine works for a company that's relocating to detroit. he's disinclined to make the move, despite the fact that he could afford a legit mansion ('m talking 4000sqf+ on 20+ acres)
