Hello all,

First of all, I am dutch so please ask me if I can make things more clear if I wrote them wrong or not understandable.

The question I have is about placing a 9" shock into a 8,75" Intense M1 2000 or 2001 (I think they are identical but am not sure). This is a slight difference to me but I am not sure if it is possible. I emailed Intense for themselves but havent gotten any reply yet (I mailed them yesterday). To be precise we are dealing with a difference of 2,9% here.

I wanted to know if it is in general possible to deviate a little from the recommended length and want I want to know too is if my frame can handle it.
Please do not say anything as long as you are not sure about what you are saying and do not have any technical skills. Of course I am aware of the essence of technical recommendations but am interested in this answer.
Thanks!

I am not familiar with the M1 specifically but I understand the question. As long as the shock stroke is the same then the difference will barely be noticeable. This is especially true if you run a hair more sag to compensate for the extra shock length. You might be able to get away with a shock with .25" extra stroke also but since I don't have first-hand experience with the M1 I can't verify that for certain.

BTW: Even though this is the proper forum for this question you might get more feedback in the DH forum since the M1 is a DH bike.

I know that the current M1's use a 9.5x3.0 shock. There was a trick for filing some of the lower shock mount or seatmast area to fit a longer shock and to sort of "update" the 2000-2001 frames. People have done it so I know it's doable, just since I have a 2002 M1 I dunno, I didn't have any problems with shocks etc....

The extra .25" would most likley not hurt anything, but cycle everything through and make sure nothing binds/hits. If everything checks out ok then you should be fine.

What kind of shock are you putting in there instead of the 8.75"??? If the new shock you want to install is 9 x 2.75 I don't see how it would be worth it since you're not changing the travel and you would be lifting the bike a little bit. Aren't Intense frames designed specifically for DH racing and have a specific geometry??? If the shock you're installing is 9 x 3.0" then maybe you could get away with it as Spunger said, have a bit of extra sag. The only shock that comes to mind is the Avalanche DHS 9.0x3.0.
