DH Bottom Bracket question

am in the market for a new ISIS BB. I have been leaning toward a Gigapipe DH.

Recently, someone mentioned that I should get a certain model FSA. He said it was cheap and had big bearings as opposed to the pricier, lighter ones. The problem is I can't remember what model he said.

Anyone have any idea what model this could be?

Bottom line, I need a new bottom bracket. My concerns from highest to lowest are as follows: Durability, price, and finally weight.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

Well the standard platinum has balls that roll directly on the spindle like Shimano unlike a cart bearing but they don't seem to be that hot.
The Giga DH has 4 bearings and is holding up the best for us.Heavy thick spindle though.
The SL has 3 bearings and a lighter spindle, holding up OK (for isis)

Word to the Gigapipe. I have one that outlasted virtually every every component on my RFX, including the frame.

well ive owned both. i think the gigapipe dh feels better than the platinum. but ive only used it for aobut 3 weeks so far. i used the fsa platinum for about a year and no probs. the gigapipe is a bit heavier but it seems to be alot more beefy

I'm trying to get the new FSA "Mega-EXO ISIS". External bearings like Saint, in an ISIS format. It's not in stores yet, to my knowledge.
sounds interesting.. any more info?

I'm very excited about this new MegaExo (I obviously lead a dull life). I thought I was going to have to spring for a Saint or Diabolus to benefit from external bearings. Now I can keep using my current ISIS cranks. However,I cannot find this FSA BB anywhere. Has anyone found'em for sale yet?

I've yet find an ISIS BB that lasts more than 6 months. That's $200+ a year for my 2 MTBs

same here, got saints on my hartail which i ride pretty much everyday and havent had a single problem with em, got isis on my dh bike which comes out at the weekends only and am now on my third bb in a year, i`d love to put some saints or diablous on the dh bike but i only paid out for my nice race face cranks a year ago, plus theyre 5 arm which means i`d have to buy new cranks/bb then a new ring AND a new bashguard so this new bb could be just the ticket for when my present one dies.

Hmmm....I was thinking about switching to ISIS for my DH bike. I guess I'll stick with my original plan and keep my square taper (rocking it like it's 1998!) until it explodes. Options are limited when you need a 148mm spindle.

I got in touch with a local distributor "Orange Sport Supply" and they told me that I could preorder it. About a month wait, they said.

Also, for whatever reason, the 73mm was only available in the Ti axle, which doesn't have the "heavy-duty" rating.

I didn't order it.

Should I go Ti? I'm about 208 lbs and hard on gear.
