Okay how about this: limit number of THREADS a person can start to 1 or 2 a day for one week.I am not currently not planning on being a barrier to someone who wants to sign up here to ask a question.
Yep, exactly this. The last time I saw it happen, the new threads were all named random characters like "agdgsh". Shortly after they changed to the Chinese or whatever characters and content. Did they make new threads or edit the existing ones? Maybe that's how they get around filters?
How about 1 thread?@binary visions : ready to limit new threads/day by new users yet?
5 would do it
Aren't you glad we're all working from home now?
freedomHow about 1 thread?
What the hell does anyone need to start 5 threads for?
Try it meowI can, but I really don't like that from a user perspective, because it makes it impossible for someone to sign up and ask for help, and makes them post a bunch of garbage first.
It has been and is across forums. 63 postings by a few bots as of this morning.... and it's starting again at The Shop subforum!
It's usually starting at 10.30-10.45 PM UTC-3. First they create threads with a sum (8765+234) as the title and some random numbers as the body. Then, at 11 PM UTC-3 they pour in the Chinese garbage. This is starting to look like it's a scripted (i.e. not manual) attack, leveraging some of the weaknesses/macros of the XenForo platform. It has been and is across forums. 63 postings by a few bots as of this morning.
You will find that the university spam users no longer exist. I generally manage to do major spam processing between 6:00 and 7:00 AM EST. Spammer accounts get wiped in the process.
I spoke to the manager a lot last spring when this started happening. He refused to put a limit on the number of threads a new user could start the first day they create an account.Karenwoo would like to speak with the manager
