i've been searching for mudders for some time now, cant seem to make a final decision as of what to buy. i always thought mud tires had hard compounds, but have found 'SRY' and 'ST' compounds. what would a soft tire stick to in wet weather? maxxis swampthings can be found in 2.5 DH casing aswell, all other makes are between 2.2-2.35 in width, i figure the skinny tire would cut through mud better than a 2.5 were that would surf atop the mud loosing control.

what works for you? Maxxis/Michy/Intense/Arrow

must be DH casing too!

what would you suggest for all types mud? wet loose, loamy, slick clay, rocky, even shore stunts?

thanks much,

darryl

If your going to be riding at snowshoe, i'd recomment a Maxxis Wetscream. It cuts through the mudd well.

I'd watch out for anything with super-tall spiky knobs if you're planning on northshore stunts... sounds sketchy and squirmy.

If you can score a set, the SRY 2.5 Wet Screams are perhaps the best mud tire ever for use in the sloppiest of slop, but are pro only spec. If not, 2.5 SRY or ST Swampthings will work pretty effectively.

Stay away from the Slow Reezay mud tires. They just don't shed the mud well enough nor do they dig in. They deflect too much.

The wetscreams were traditionally offered in a 80d, but I think that tire is being faded out due to not enough people buying them.

I rode some proto Swampthings in 2.5 UST version at the Snowshoe national lastyear and I wish I hadn't. They gripped like mad in the corners and whatnot, but in the peanut butter mud they were just too wide and had too much volume. I wished I had been on some 2.35s or some 2.2 Wetsreams.

But for general DH riding in the wet I'd get 2.5 or 2.35 Swampthings in 60d. Save the Wetscreams for racing. The Maxxis website has some 2.35 dh casing tires in the sale section. Those would be the tits.

Michelin Mud3...but they would be scary on NS stunts, just as any Mud specific tires.

For wet/greasy stuff, they're simply amazing.

I think it really depends on how muddy we're talking here and what kind of terrain this is. I did a few races this year and last that were mud top to bottom. Deep and slick and really sloppy. One course had a long open grass section in it as well. That would be perfect for a tire like a Mud 3 or Wetscream. For something like maybe my snow, I'd be wary of using a tire like that because of the amount of sections with mud on top of large rocks. Swampthings might be good there or on another type of more varied course. For that kind of mud the Intense Intruder or Mich Comp 16 2.5 would also be really good.

Swampthing and Comp 16 2.2 were what came to mind for me...but as a Cali boy, I figured I'd steer clear of recommending things I know nothing about.
