I blew out my knee so this racing season I'll be on the sidelines taking pictures. I want to use my off camera flash but I don't want to distract the riders. Do they usually have a problem with this?

Also any tips and pointers would be appreciated!
Thanks.

since everyone seems to use off-camera and on-camera flashes (esp in the wooded sections), i doubt it would be a problem. ask some racers in the DH forum if it's ever affected them.

I have only ever heard rogue parents complain to me as their kid passes by. I have never had any complaints from the riders beyond me not making them look any faster than they were going.

If a rider notices the flash they are paying attention to the wrong thing. Be respectful of course, I mean, don't just put the flash in their face, think about your placement and they will not have a problem.

What they said...

In general I ask about it whenever I'm shooting a casual event (like a jam at the skatepark or at the DJs). I do it mostly as a "warning" so that they are counting on it.

That said, I never got a complaint..
