in your opinion what is the easiest dh tire to get on and off a rim?
Anything not made by continental.
Higher end tires with kevlar beads are easier than cheap tires.
I have had more trouble with big rims than I have had with small tires.

it depends on the rim more than the tire. I'd say any tire is tough to get off of something with high sidewalls and a flat center section like rhynolites. Kevlar beads are generally easier to manage than wire beads though and thinner sidewalls seem to help too. I had some IRC mythos that would practically fall off the rim once the tube was deflated, maybe IRC downhill tires are the same?

I not to sure on the rim theory.

Ryno Lytes:
Maxxis Minnion - easy
Arrow launch - hard

Mavic 729:
Maxxis Minnion - easy
Arrow launch - hard

both brands are wire beads

My experience was that rhyno lites were darn near impossible to get maxxis highrollers off of. Maybe it just depends more on what batch the tire comes from. I've heared lots of people say that rhynolite/SUV's are really tough to get tires on and off of.

In my experience WTB rims are a super pain with just about any tire.

I don't need levers for my maxxis and kenda dh tires on mavic rims, if that helps any.

everyone seems to moan about michis and d321s, but i can do these with my fingers easy.

So far i've not found anything that i cant do with a good technique and 1 plastic tyre lever.

oh apart from tyres on doublewides thats abit of a pig.

I think the hardest tires to get off and on are thick DH tires that have no stretch to them. Intense tires had me cursing for a while on a narrow Arrow FRX rim. My DHX rims mount anything, pretty easily with my hands.

I know my Mavic EX721's Maxxis mount easy as well as IRC. Even my Arrow DHX rims on the DH ride Maxxis mount super easy and IRC. I think Intense was the killer though, I busted 2 DH tubes doing that. Never again!!!

Worst tire/rim combo I have worked with so far is the Rhynolite/Hookworm combo. This setup almost drove me postal.

Had good luck (little need for levers) with mag30s and High Rollers. Minions on the same rim have been a pain though.

Worst rim ever, Tioga DH.

Strong, light, wide, and impossible to change a tire.

good lord i m glad someone said that. I would have finger pains for weeks

You couldn't be any more correct, sir!

I needed a short stay at the Looney bin after trying to get this combo set up. My Mavic's were over on the other bike laughing at me. Plastic tire levers? RhynoLites/Hookworms eat them for breakfast.........My girlfriend is over there going, "So.....let's get this straight. You can take that damn fork apart in your sleep, but you can't change a tire?" :p

I had my bike in the garage for 2 days then tried to take my hookworm off of an MTX rim. It was 30* outside and near that in the garage. The metal seemed like it had slightly expanded, and sun rims are already a bit oversized. This had to be the hardest change ive ever done. Took me damn near 10min to pull the tire off. I'm the hookwork/sunrims master i can pull a hookworm off of any sun rim with plastic park tools levers in a minute or so :D

Intense are the hardest, no doubt. Michelin can sometimes be tight as well. Worst rims I've had for tire changing are definitely Mag30s. I can't imagine MTXs are any better. High sidewalls, wide rim = no fun. One day, it took me about 1.5 hours of solid work w/ metal and plastic levers just to get a tire off.

Word. I think I snapped 2 or 3 last time I changed the tire without DH levers. By the way, if you are not using tubeless and have any trouble with tires GET DH LEVERS from Park or Intense. Makes it soooooo much easier but it can screw the bead up a bit.
