Hey,can you Monkeys give me/us you’re thoughts on the above questions? I am out of the corner and want to know: What is a Proper Wage for 1,2 and 3 for there hard work On the Podium? A good start this is.

Avy
My gut feeling is total compensation (from all sponsors) for a consistent #1 finish should be in the $350k-500k given the average shelf life for those sort of performances is only a short while. Maybe knock off 100k for #2 & #3 respectively. That's probably actually less than some of those guys make, but it's kind of a loaded question considering there's only a few guys that actually are consistently top 3. Most bounce around in the top 10, or top 20.

So maybe a better question is: what should a top 10 rider make? What about top 20?

OK,Top 20 it is. What do we think is a Fair Number? It is a difficult question. Also, the Prize Money?

I agree with those numbers Andeh.

More ice to train on. No powder days to steal your attention?
Strangely enough we used to have both in Austria and we tend to be not too bad at racing. On the other hand every kid in a 30 km radius around a ski lift was training in a team for at least some time.
And I can tell you first hand that those teams are not fun. Prime example would be Marcel Hirscher always running his own trainer team lead by his father and not getting involved with the Austrian National Team too much.
Also only the very best are able to make a living from sponsor deals, all the others are just getting their expanses covered and some pocket money. So skiing could also use a proper union.

fun stuff -

Fresh faced American eagle to a “100%” focused team while the Swedish boomerang receives lucrative offers but happy to remain in a humble union.
Meanwhile the Aussie brothers are seperated at the chance of a factory sled, While the saying goes the Kestrel comes home to nest amongst the sharks and their spawn.
Chief of the bomb squad finally calls it a day and focuses on fatherhood,

Wyning is now done on one wheel and manages mustangs Sally’s new stripes, Isle of Man is tempted but loves French butter too much.
Meanwhile schnitzel von crumb gets his marching orders at the trum of a beat, But it’s ok the dudes are there to save him again and Good Times are had by all.

The burly dog has a new pup to train, whilst the goat takes one last swing at base then takes reigns at the helm with the publican.

Hollywoods 50s blonde bombshell gets the knod from British royalty while mum calls it a day.

New horizons on the calendar and a return to the rice fields is on the minds of all.
All is well in downhill for 2023

Who cares about team rumors when the sport itself is circling in the toilet bowl?

Some of these racers had better get really good at hucking, or buying department store components and sending them on video, or... anything to get social media followers, really. Earning a living by racing will be for just a couple of handfuls of riders.

Nothing new there.
So,these last couple of races are Big Time for All the riders right on that cusp of just past 30? How does this work?

I am so mad at all this,It does not seem real. Soon,it will be gone like Norba.

Just to show how big road cycling in Europe is, watch the crowd at Vingegaard's ceremony in Kopenhagen.

Correction: this shows more how crazy the Danes are with road cycling. The air force send two fighter planes to escort his plane the last part of the journey:

The airport fire fighters did this:

Lots of wasted tax payers money just to celebrate a cyclist.

While I think it is cool that they celebrate their heros, it sometimes gets a little too patriotic for my taste. Further, the uncritical relationship to known dopers (e.g. Bjarne Riis) is in stark contrast to how e.g. Germany is treating their cheaters.

nothing in compariso to what germany wastes in tax money to keep up public security just so some men can drink way too much while traveling to a football match and back while harassing bystanders

at least cycling fans don’t start riots when being unattended

Exact same over here. Every Saturday during football season in pretty much every city our entire Police force are busy policing football matches and transport links to and from football stadiums.

Fun fact: if you organize a road cycling event you have to pay the police for the road closures. Football clubs do not have to pay for the security, neither do transports of radioactive material between nuclear power plants.

Same situation again over here.
There are also a few UK DH venues where organisers have to pay for a road closure in order to run the event.

At least you're good at that sport. We spend less as a percentage of GDP and GDPPP on Sports but still waste our taxpayer money on kickball security and we suck at the sport. We used to be really good at XC, Timed Trial Cycling and a few other sports but all that gets money here is kickball and ski jumps

In Poland? Well yeah but that's just 2 brothers. We had a decent DJ scene but that's gone. I don't think I've heard of any young rippers looking to take over after Godziek's.
Those two, but there is also the Abram...cz???? dude, Stachak and some other young guy that showed at a Crankworks (I think) that was pretty impressive.

Ha! Our fucking football association pays the air tickets, hotel stay and match tickets for the top hooligans in the country. Add the FIFA has chosen to have this year's world cup in a country which gas death penalty for homosexuality.

But Messi is the king :banghead:

Abramowicz got 27th in Katowice. Behind Daniel Zawistowski who seemed to be getting better results but his FP has been silent for some time. . Not going to dunk on them since they have mad talent but generally most guys in Poland are just behind the guys who qualify for bigger events. Plenty of talent but it doesn't yet materialize in terms of international results. The 3rd best Pole behind Godziek's is still Marcin Rot. He's been that for a long time and essentially is what I'd call the gatekeeper for young DJ riders. We had a guy who competed with Godziek's early on and he had a very Rogatkin style of all power no finesse but I don't think he is serious about competing anyway.

I'm not 100% up to date with the scene but looking at local results there isn't anyone who seems like can follow Szymon and David soon.

Generally there is no hype about a new guy for FR or DJ. We have 1 good enduro rider with Slawek Lukasik who could probably reliably get top20 in DH too if he got factory support earlier in his life but now he's into pedally bikes and he seems to be on a good team.

Crazy cool podcast online now (In & Out with Camille Balanche and Emilie Siegenthaler) and their Snowshoe recap featuring Missy Giove. Good insights into the state of women's racing pay packets, contract details, bonus, what things are and what they used to be. Obviously it wanders a bit but its so good to hear from Missy and her take on stuff.

I've been meaning to check out that podcast. They seem like interesting people within the sport.

There was an update on it on Making Up the Number podcast. Apparently they had Gwin and Bulldog doing track inspections or something now. Still don't seem to have much teeth to them though
