DHS on a Cheeta...

all right, i spend alot of time on Avy's site drooling over Mtn. 10's with their friggin 43mm. stanchions, and also over thier DHS shock.
i checked their fit-list and it listed my bike BUT it said that there is no fit availible for it, not only for the DHS, but for every model of shock that they make...
i really want to buy one, first of all because they just look sick with their reservoir being close to the size of the shock body ithself, but second of all- i need a shock that will last me, unlike my vanilla rc.

anyways, long story short: i need to know if i can still put a DHS on my bike even though Avalanche says that there is no fit availible for my bike.

im in desperate need of a new shock- im riding around on a vanilla rc with no oil or nitrogen (the nitrogen part was purely a great example of how curiosity killed the cat... it pretty much exploded and scared the sh!t out of me):help:

well, i was seriously considering pushing the shock with their factory race kit, but then i realized that really what im looking for is a shock with a 3in. stroke... and ive never seen an rc with a 3in. stroke AND with the way that my linkage is pushing on the shock, i want to have a thicker shaft just to make sure that it doesnt bend.

i was also going to buy a used DHS 3.0 for around $350 which is around $150 more than getting my rc pushed.

or find a roco or DHX 5.0 for under $400

only trouble with buying a used DHS is that unless the person who had it before you was about your size, you'd need to get it revalved and get a new spring. Once you do that, you're looking at almost the same cost as a new one.
I don't know much about Cheeta's, but I don't think they came with a 3" stroke shock. By putting such a long shock on that bike, you'd jack your bb way up and steepen your head angle. Not good things to do on a DH bike.

if you put a shock that has a different stroke than what the frame was designed for, you will ruin the geometry, and possibly the frame. i would highly recommend a roco, i just got mine and it is the shiz. also, i have one of the old cheeta dual slalom frames. they are some sweet bikeys, shame those guys went under.

well, the bb hieght is insane already and ive matched the HA with monsters. the bb height actually doesn't bother me even where it is (17+in.)
the geo. is already f-ed up and im getting a new frame soon anyways...

BUT, i dont want to buy an avy now because i changed my mind and want to make my bike full on 'zokie.

until i get enough money for a roco i will be riding with a blown out rc so i solved that problem for awhile by buying a romic (9.5x3.0).

i guess this thread is done avalanche wise...

yeah, cheeta rocks. i have their 1997 Prowler and it has never had any problems frame wise... only problems were blown out shocks:)
