Did a Time trial tonight

splat

Nam I am
I just herd about this time trial that runs on the first Wednesday of every month . I figured I'd check it out. I haven't done a real TT in almost 10 years, so Why Not.

I had ridden these roads many times but never like this. I was happy with my Results for the first time racing this course especially since there were a bunch of Cat 2's and Cat 3's And they started them all behind me ! and all had TT Bikes ! I was one of the Few who didn't even have aero bars on!

The course is 7.7 miles and we went off at 30 second intervals I was passed by 2 riders ( And a 3rd was close on my tail when I crossed the finish line) and caught and passed the person who went off a minute ahead of me.

It was Fun ! I'll have to do it again Next month

Way to go!

Last year at the Cascade Cycling Classic Stage race it was my first ever TT! I didn't have aero bars either...think I was the only one. I loved it, that fear of getting passed that motivates you to work that little extra bit.

With Me it goes beyond fear and gets to the Paranoia , and I love the Chase when you see the person in front of you and push just a little bit more to catch him to make that pass.
Yep, I never got passed, but I came so close to passing! I think all I succeeded in doing was make her go faster! DOH

In the first mtb one I did, I passed my one minute man on a technical rock ledge you had to hop up on. She bobbled and had to step off and I hammered right by. Woohoo -

Hey, paranoia is a POWERFUL drug!

Every other Wednesday we have a short MTB time trial at the local trail. Last year me and a good friend would try and kill each other for the victory. It was the most intense competition I have ever been involved in. We are two very different riders, he has me on with power and speed but I am much faster than him in tight technical single track. Out of 4 TT's we both won 2, always within 8 seconds of each other and we both ended up getting the course record of 17:08 on different days.

TTs are the hotness, congrats on your strong finish! The cool thing is that as long as this course is the same each Wed you're there you can really track your progress easily as you improve. I would definitely look into a aerobar for your road bike, if you've used them in the past you know it's like an extra 2 mph for the same effort. After that, look into a set of Hed 3s or similar wheels on ebay- you'll be loving it! I'm a TT junkie, haha. If you're the kind of guy to get a new bike every year or two, think about hanging on to one and setting it up for TTs specifically with the cow horns and bar end shifters, aero wheels, a 0 layback seatpost and all of that. It's a bargain way to get a TT bike, and since the frame will account for verry little of the wind resistance (position on the bike is 1st, wheels 2nd) you will really have a sweet setup for having not invested a lot- plus you have a spare road bike if you need it. Good luck!
