Those don't even wake me up unless they are shallow and I'm near the epicenter. 4pt barely passes as news coverage here.Originally posted by golgiaparatus

We have crazy weather though yesterday really bad winds here tore windows off of one of the large buildings downtown and huge panes of glass were falling from the sky.... I bet I can even find a picture...
Yep:
This week has been pretty wild. Golf ball size hail. Tornado warnings, but no touch downs. 60mph winds. Fun stuff.Originally posted by golgiaparatus

I dont think anyone was hurt yesterday...Originally posted by Cooter Brown
i'm surprised no hobo's were killed in the barrage of falling glass
Yeah the storms the last two nights have been insane. we got 60-70 mph winds in downtown dallas. I live on the 22nd floor, so I look out over a wide swath of dallas, and I musta saw at least 5-6 transformers exploding in the last two nights. crazy. There was a 15x30 piece of metal that was ripped off the building next to us and we watched it dance in the wind at around the 25th floor for at least five minutes until it finally fell between two cars.Originally posted by golgiaparatus

In order to have a tornado warning there has to be a touch down somewhere. A tornado watch and there is no touchdowns but it is likely.Originally posted by Wumpus

Did any one else see that big arsed bird that just flew past my window?
You know what's funny is...we'll have an earthquake...even a very mild one that could pass as a dizzy spell...and all the sudden people get on the phone and call the radio stations...and the radio guys'll be all...yeah we got a call from someone in Gilroy that felt it...no damage or injuries to report...and it's like a 4 point o'er. why...why would you call the radio station unless you had something of relevance to report...usually they will say that we had an earthquake, state the epicenter and magnitude...thats enough...we don't need to hear how some yahoo in gilroy felt the ground roll...Originally posted by Zark
Each point on the Richter scale is an order of magnitude difference. So a 5 is 10x as powerful as a 4. A five might spill your coffee, knock over a plant. But a 6 will level an unreinforced brick building. 6 and up is where things get hairy fast.
Something has to interupt the crap they play on radio stations.Originally posted by dh girlie

Not true. If radar indicates rotation, a tornado warning will be issued. I believe there was also some sightings of funnel clouds.Originally posted by RideND

Def -- A funnel cloud is a vortex of condensated water vapor and air spinning at high velocity. Funnel clouds can form under cumulus clouds if there is enough humidity and vorticity in the air. Landspouts and waterspouts are funnel clouds which reach to ground level, but are usually weak, as opposed to tornadoes. A tornado by definition is a funnel cloud created by mesoscale storm rotation rather than the small vorticity in the air which is responsible for funnel clouds.
