What is the difference between '03 LX and XT cranksets?

LX has a steel granny and steel chainring bolts and a grey finish. The rings are different too but I don't know if its significant. XT has an aluminum granny and the bolts are half aluminum. The nut portion is steel and bolt side aluminum and the finish is plain.

I hear Lx is made of duraluminium and xt is made of super duraluminium... what ever that means.

they are also spaced different,

XT bb's are 113 or 118mm
LX are 121 or 126mm

I believe this allows for a plastic pant guard on Euro LX models. LX and XT BB's are different for 03 in length and quality. I don't now how in quality though.

Interesting, and all this time I thought it was just to irratate the consumer.
