Dirt VS Wood take offs?

Backyard

Hey everybody, Backyard here! I got a question. I have a nice and almost perfect backyard for dirt jumping, it already has a clear cut go-kart trail on it and its a completely downhill run except for one section about 150 feet long that is flat. The only problem is that dirt is extremely hard to come by here. It's all rocky and rooty (I live in NH) and unfortunately I live in a forest! A dense one at that! So Getting dirt in from other places is also quite a pain. I am hoping to be getting a friend to hook me up with a little bit but I was wondering what are the advantages of a dirt or wood take off ramp. I will stick to dirt landings but I was thinking wood would make a better take off, my dad also is a carpenter so I can get a ton of scrap wood and new wood for cheap. Then I could build more jumps with the dirt I can get. So if somebody(s) could tell me whats bad about a wood take off, whats better about dirt, and vise versa, so far as far as I can tell wood looks better because it can easily be moved around to modify your trail and during the winter you can store them easily (I have room in my basement for quite a few jumps) Thanks for all your help, and if somebody could suggest some plans for jumps? Thanks.

generally, wood does better indoors. unless it is super-treated and painted. although there may be a little love lost in aesthetics. . . there is nothing inherently wrong with having wood launches to dirt landings. you should probably build some dirt launches just for the experience but by all means build some wood ones also.
