Just trying to clarify and perhaps looking for suggestions. I'm building up some 819 disc rims to King hubs for my trailbike. I think I remember hearing/reading that you can run non UST tires in the UST rims with no problems. I'll most likely be using Stans fluid anyway. Is this correct? I currently like Conti Vert Pros, NBX 2.3s, WTB Trailbears and Mutanoraptors with tubes. Should I/can I continue to use these tires or do I have to get the UST versions that are available? I'll most likely get a Conti Vert Pro UST tire for the front, but I'm not sure what to do with the rear. Suggestions? It's rocky, technical riding here in the east coast. Does Maxxis make something for me in a 2.3 or so?

I don't think Maxxis offers any tubeless tires in 2.35", but they do have some XC highroller in 2.1 and they offer a 2.0 version of the Larsen TT in tubeless, which has a large volume.

Yeah, pretty much what I figured. The Larsens are way no good here and the highroller the same. Love if the made a 2.3 or so Slo Rizzay that wasn't 900lbs...

ive never had an ust rim but have done lots (two figures a long time ago) of ghetto and proper stans to non-ust tires.

what ive found is just what was to be expected, the tires are made tubeless by the goop, the rim is made tubeless with the rimstrip.

just mind what tire you use, round, semi-stiff casing is the best bet. use new tires that have been inflated for a day or two so that they have a better shape.

.

theres also the 2.35 ST/two ply larsens, those are awesome for trail and fr as long as its not too loose.

I've run tons of different tires on my CrossMax, most of them non-tubeless. The way I've heard it, non-UST tires on UST rims is ok, UST tires on non-UST rims not ok.
That's what I'm running on my NRS right now, not a DH bike, but worked fine on my VT too...

That is not true. All Michelin tires (at least the DH's) have been tubeless for about 3 years now. They came out at least a year before tubeless DH rims had hit the market.

They were Nagesti Tubeless system, which I haven't really seen out there much. The UST-only tires don't really work so well on the non-UST rims.

What are you talking about? I have run plenty of UST tires on non-UST rims and not had a single issue. Has all the carbon fiber somehow hurt your brain? And are you saying that some tires are "UST rims only" and others are "UST or non UST rims"?
Is Nagesti the system that works with clincher rims? Kind of a cross between clincher and sewup tires?

Kinda narrow, my front one is holding up fine, but my rear is already ****, and covered in flatspots, Luc (Acadian) has horror stories about these rims. Not to mention the guys at mavic are schmucks

you think they would be ok for a heavy xc wheel for a big guy. i just ride trails and wanted a sturdy rim. no huge air time on em. only three foot drops here on our trail. i just wanted something around 30mm that was simmi light but strong.

I only wiegh 130ibs will these hold up alright. Ive trashed the 219s i have right now I hope there stronger then those. Also can Ex823 tun UST and non UST like the dee max? Id assume so since its the same rim. Should I steer clear of the 823 and go for 729s on king hubs or just go all out with the deemax?

thanks and sorry for the sorta hi jack but it has some ust and non ust issues in it:D

There seems to be a lot of people saying a lot of bad things about the Mavic UST DH rims. If you want to be safe, go with whatever the new 321 is called now. I have seen a few smooth liteweight people rim the inserts out of the DeeMax's. The 219 is a fairly cheap rim.
