disk conversion

i was wondering how hard it would be to convert a steel hardtail to disk. what are some good/cheap adapters or how hard would it be for this expert metalworker i know to fashion some up thanks for the help

Depends on a few things. If your frame has reasonably thick walls, it should be possible to just weld an IS mount on.... possibly with a reinforcing bar between the seatstays and chainstays. Adaptors are made by A2Z, and Hope made a "torsion arm" for their brakes and hubs. I think that the specialized adapter for their older bike can be used on many frames also.

The Hope may be his best bet.

thanks for the help but the chain and seat stays are not thick at all and i am thinking trying to add disk in anyway would break them and for the cost of a conversion kit i could probably get a new frame with disks so new question does anyone know of a good cheap slalom/urban hardtail frame thanks again for the help

My cousin just picked up a super nice Jamis HT frame from Jenson for $179 (Komodo or Eureka??). This thing looks diesel, and is disc only.

diesel... good word choice i have seen those jamis's and they look like a really good deal i have a jamis frame for xc (like it alright)

the problem is disks put a totally different stress on the frame that it was not built for so and that woodman thing is like 150 and i could just get a new frame almost for that
